It is my understanding that many peopl's metabolism slows when they quit, and that it evens out back to where it was somewhere around the 6 month mark. You can boost your metabolism by breaking your meals up into 6 of them - but with the same amount of food you previously put in 2 or 3 a day. Also - excercise! You could take baby steps with us - look in my bless your heart thread. I started with walking my girls to the bus, and working it into a routine, and we're adding to it in small increments - to prevent setting ourselves up for failure by running a marathon in an all or nothing sort of dash right in the beginning. Best to establish routines. I dont think that i am eating loads more. yet i seem to have put on weight. My legs feel weird too. I knelt down on the floor the other day like i always have done - and i was in so much pain, it was like my legs were too fat to kneel down anymore. I have never experienced this before. Is it common? Is it water retention > I hit 38 last week, is it my age. I am so confused. Normally I go back to smoking when I think I am putting on weight. but this time I really dont ever want to smoke again. I am so pleased to finally be free. But I am scared that ia m going to get bigger and bigger and bigger... then I would definately go back to smoking - if i thought my weight would return to normality. I sit at a desk all day - drive to and from work. But i do go to the gym (sometimes), I ride a mountain bike and dont have a problem with walking. I wouldnt say that i am ott weight wise - but I am alarmed at how fast it is creeping up.I am also gutted that I will have to wear a kaftan with bikinis on the beach this year. I would be too embarrassed not to. I dont think I eat OTT - Has anyone elses legs got really really big? So big you cant kneel down anymore? Does your weight go back to normal after a while - or do you continually for the rest of your life need to do 50% more excercise than normal. do I have to eat much less than before? If so, for how long? NIKS, I gained about 11 lbs when I quit, I wasn't eating more either I thought. I was exerising but add more execises Started writing down what I ate. In the last month I've lost 8lbs. Biut it worth it not to smoke. I was one that really worried about gaining weight. Hang in there. niks, believe me that if you go back to smoking, you will NOT lose the weight. I know it's hard, but it's normal to put on a few pounds. Yes, you do have to work harder to keep it off, but there comes a time (some say around 6 months) that the weight gain tapers. Some people only gain a couple of pounds. You might search around for some healthy eating sites and you might also increase your exercise. My doctor told me that it was better that I gained a few pounds than if I went back to smoking. I'm sure that's true for you as well. I may be chunky, but I don't smell nasty! lol Good luck! Niks, Everyone's body is different. You may feel the weight creep on , but it will taper off. Do your best to help your body. Check with your Doctor to come up with a plan that is best for you. Exercise is a good way to help you maintain and achieve a healthy goal for yourself. Also do some research and start eating better as well as take note of portion control. The members will be along to advise you of tips and tools they have used for their quits. We are always here, so please take it one step at a time.
