Self Care

Fresh air and sunshine is the best!  Fortunately for me I live in an area where the weather never really gets cold so I can in walks year round.  When I was drinking I never intentionally went for walks.  I did cardio and lifted weights, but never just walked to enjoy the surroundings.  After I stopped drinking I began walking and usually listened to music or podcasts.  I now leave the headphones and enjoy the sounds of nature.  I find it as a great time to clear your mind.

So right Bassman,

Often, just getting out of the house and taking a short walk really help. Especially on a sunny day but everyday too.

I have been using guided meditations a lot lately. I find it very beneficial. Practicing "mindfulness" and using breathing exercises is improving my state of mind/body immensely. Probably the best therapy I find is simply getting outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine.

Ashley, thank you for the link on self care. I really enjoyed it. It is very useful info to review and put to practice.

Hi Vee,

Great thread topic. Self care is so important. I was just reading this article on self care: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/lifespan-perspectives/201909/four-realistic-rules-better-self-care? It was very concise and accurate. I highly recommend the short read.

Let me know if any of the points resonate with you.

Thanks for posting,

Ashley

Good for you Vee!

It does make a difference to make a place look like home, I agree. I am happy for you that you can explore painting as a way to relax more.

Keep us posted!

Thanks Hors, I have been exploring more . When I paint the  anxiety and worrying chatter in my head seems to get quiet . I posted about self care just because its something I have issues with . I am used to taking care of others but never myself and also struggle with self hate and am working on that . baby steps . That was me drinking and looking at the screen or doing other things but never took care of myself or my place or anything . I put up some paintings the other day and now feel good about it love looking at the wall . makes the place feel less of just a place and more of a home  if that makes sense . I know we are all different . just something I struggle with . ever since I came back though I feel good , love all the support here , the posts , the resources . its great .
