I'm very happy to hear that you have found a doctor you feel comfortable with and hopefully the medication works out well for you. Keep us posted on your progress.

Hello Everyone, I have just seen a very good doctor over the last three days, he seemed very understanding, he has ruled out heart, lungs etc and he has put me on Amitriptyline, just a small dose to see how I go. I told him I was a bit phobic about new tablets as I take so much and he double checked for me to put me at ease. I have to go back in three weeks to let him know how things are.

I have been on Valium before (1960-1970's) but no longer as it is no longer a 'good' drug, and now because I am on Hydroxyurea which is a mild chemo and tablets for high blood pressure-Doxozine, I was told that the Diasipan that I was taking was not compatable, and as I was only on a low dosage and didn't need them all the time that nothing else would be perscribed. I never asked for any thing else because I have so many tablets to take that some times it all gets a bit too much and I dont want to take more medication. I have pain killers, 500mg solible paracetamal, and sercs., for vertigo and soluble asprin 75mg because I had a blood clot in the eye a little while ago. I sound like a wreck! I guess with that little lot you can understand why I get a bit nervous and have a panic if I dont feel well, especially if it is unexpected. Thanks again for your help.

lemondrop, are you currently on any medication for your panic and have you ever sought help for it? I can't imagine having had to suffer with panic attacks since the 1960's. I've been on 100 mg zoloft for about 6 months and it has made a tremendous difference in how I feel and I am also getting help from a psychologist. If your not on any meds or seeing a therapist maybe you should consider doing so.

Thank you all for your replies, I must admit that my panics have been going on for years, since the early 1960's to be true, usually they happen about once or twice every few months but they are pretty horrible when they happen, and I have been through the whole gauntlet of symptoms. They all seem based on the same thing - my health. It feels so frustrating not to be able to deal with them, both my sons get them also. my eldest boy deals with them ok by telling them to come on and do their worst and that usually disipates them, but I can not manage that, I have tried, it is ok if the panic is not too fierce, it will work then for a bit; and all the breathing into paper bags; there is also a help group with a phone line during the day. In the middle of the night it is just hell. I just want to scream and scream for it to stop. The next day there is sanity again. The average time is about eight to fourteen hours. It is still horrible. :)Thanks every one you have really helped.

lemondrop, it sounds like you have been and are going through alot. With chemo and everything. I know that this will sometimes cause panic. It's kind of like post traumatic stress disorder. Sometimes realizing the origin of the panic will help you to deal with it. If your stressed and have alot to deal with your mind and body get to the point where it feels like it can't take anymore. I get like this sometimes when life it tough. If it helps just keep in mind that your not alone there is a bunch of us out here going through the same things. Hope you feel better and God Bless!

Hello, Thank you for your imput. Unfortunately it is not so easy to get the help and advice needed, I am in England and the National Health Service is good but there is long waits for specialist treatments especially anything non urgent, ie panics etc.It is more a case of heal yourself if you dont want to be doped up on trancs. The internet has been helpful since I have had it for the last nine months, I know what triggers my panics but I have not solved them yet, luckily they are not all the time, but even a cut finger can start one off.

Hi Lemondrop, Glad to hear that your PA has resolved for the time being. From your post I see that you have been on chemo. Does your doctor know that you are having these PA'S and that they are a result of your pain? Having seen this in the past, I have to ask you a personal question. Are you seeing a pain control specialist? If not, ask your doctor to refer you to one. Pain is a trigger for your PA's and if you get the pain controlled then maybe this can be a starting point for you? Please continue to post your thoughts and concerns with us. Thanks for letting us know how you are feeling today. Take care, Melanie

Thank you, I am feeling a bit better, I fell asleep at last. The trouble is when you are old anyway, I am 62, and full of pain with arthritus, it only takes a new injury to freak me out. I am still a bit fluttery but a lot better today. That is one of the worst ones I have had for a while. Also I have been on mild chemo for 11 -12 years so I feel a bit fragile at the best of times. Thanks again for replying, it helps.

Hi Lemondrop, I know that feeling, all the logic just flies out the window in the midst of a panic attack! I often tell myself “believe in the logic”. This affirmation has worked for me so far. I’ve not been suffering severe panic attacks for long, only this year. The first time I had an ‘out of the blue’ attack was when I’d been throwing myself around the house to loud music, being an idiot really heh. Anyway I hadn’t had very much sleep and after all that I had really sore muscles. Couldn’t move my neck for a couple of days. On top of this I had a panic attack that lasted about a week. It was either one long panic attack or a whole lot of panic attacks one after the other. I couldn’t really tell. All I cared about was getting rid of it. Anyway I’m sure you know your own body really well. Just wanted to let you know I’ve experienced what you’re going through, and I lived. You will too, you know you will. Just remember to “believe the logic” Take care and keep us posted. :)
