sometimes we just overthink things. quitting smoking is just like most other things , it takes practice. it's like a kid on a bike , or a horse , you fall off , dust yourself off and get back on. no big deal , just don't quit quitting ! and eventually , BINGO ! Robin, the real question is, not why did you do good for 3 months, but why do you slip at 3 months? That seems to be the issue for you. For a lot of us, what happens is that we get overconfident and say to ourselves, "OK, I've made it this far...I can now reward myself, or I can control it now, or I can have just one." Addicts like us can not have just one, as you have seen. As Sue said, the secret is don't smoke....ever. It's the only way to quit. well Robin, they know what they are talking about because they are veterans at this and have been where you are over and over. The path you take during your quit is up to you, there is no right or wrong. Just don't ever smoke again, the craves will stop and you will be fine and healthier for it. the advice you were given is just how to deal, and believe me it is solid hard earned advice. Good Luck! what no way im not setting a new quit date! thats just a smokers excuse to continue to smoke haha no way i'm continuing and i dont agree at all when this has happend in the past if i slipped then started right away again hell week didnt even exist cause slipping gives me confidence like if i did it for 2 weeks then i can do it for 2 weeks and beyond so i dont know what your talking about i feel so much better now and yeah im prepared i have whole no smoking packet with my reward system, reasons and everything i did on this journey anddd now my new thing is to copy and paste all the posts i like from this board and do it as i read it when its done i erase it. i think just from all the posts i liked from mod's corner and introduce yourself i have enough stuff for almost a year and i still have 3 sections to copy and past. John summed it up pretty good. I can tell you that it never ever gets better. You crazy mind will tell you differently, but it is all lies. Like John said set a new quit date. Get prepared, really prepared. I can not begin to tell you what it is like to keep doing this over and over and over again. It never gets easy and with each slip there is no guarantee that you will be able to stop again. If your friends know you HAVE quit, why would they offer you a cigarette? Hummmmmmmmmmmmm think on that one. Tell them you quit and that when they give you smokes they are not helping you or them. Now get ready. Keep the Quit Sparky My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/30/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 346 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,460 Amount Saved: $1,038.00 Life Gained: Days: 49 Hrs: 0 Mins: 48 Seconds: 28

Got some more bad news for ya Robin. Let's pretend your craving is like a spoiled child wanting candy, he is used to getting its way and if not he crys. You go for three days where he crys like crazy driving you nuts. Then he crys but not as much for the next week. It seems every day you go without giving him candy he crys for a shorter period and you get a longer span of peace and quiet between tantrums. Then after 2 weeks you come home and give him candy! Yeah!! CANDY I AM SO HAPPY!! GIVE ME MORE!! You give him more. Guess what happens next? Yep, the tantrums will return and now hell week will now last 2 weeks because last time he went 2 weeks before he got candy. If cravings continue for 2 weeks it will be rewarded once again. (so he thinks) So, the more you give in the worse it is to quit. This is why you will see on some people's sig line N.O.P.E - Not One Puff Ever That one puff is all it takes. Now let me ask you something.... Did you have a list? You know, the list of reasons why you want to quit? If you DID, did you read it before lighting up? If you DIDN'T have a list, I strongly recommend you write one now and set a new quit date. In the mean time only smoke in one place (outside) so when you quit stay away from that place. Good Luck, you can do it! Robin, Your fellow non smokers offer a lot of great advice. Pick yourself up and learn from this experience. Determine what your triggers are and steer clear for a while. Keep pushing forward and hold your head up. We know you can do this. Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator
