Hi happy, u are so close for the junkie thoughts to go away. After a year I rarely had any thoughts. Just hang in there b/c I already relapsed for you & trust me you're better off just the way you are, smoke-free :) I just would like to suggest that u come in here at least once a day to get your healthy dose of love, support & any help you may need & if u don't need any help then come in here and help someone else, LIKE ME, LOL. It's so important to keep coming in here. I truly believe that's why I relapsed at a yr & 4mos b/c I stopped coming in here. The smoking thoughts are going to be far and few between. Don't give up before the miracle! You're sooooo close :) Just breathe.....AHHHHHH My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/16/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 1 Mins: 52 Seconds: 15

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi Happy You are not being firm enough with yourself? These are smoking triggers that you havent put to rest and that is what is going on. When you get the urge, firmly tell the urge to vanish. You see you need to stop entertaining the thoughts. The thoughts will quit knocking on your door once they know that you will not let them in. Just tell them NO, NO, go away and then get busy. There is an end and you have the control over when. The sooner you learn to use your coping skills well, the sooner the thoughts fade. By the way I dont smoke, nor do I want to and as Mercy has said of herself I am a non smoker. Think words like these, think them, live them, and recite them. Dont you dare slip, you are too close too, too close. We are not going to go through this again. Now get busy, be thankful that you are strong, be happy and thank you for posting. Thanks to all of you for your encouragement. Pokerbrat thanks for the thread. It meant so much. I still have my triggers but I'm determined to make it through this. I'm not going to reset my meter as I know it would discourage me enough to just go back to smoking. I didn't smoke that many and I'm back determined to beat this. Oh, Happy, there seem to a lot of that going around here. The good thing is you haven't smoked. I don't know what to tell you, I am not wise enough yet :eg: I do recall others talking about going though all the seasons before things really start getting better. I am not there yet. I think is normal for us to have thoughts, it is what we do with them that matters the most. With this quit when I think about it I ask myself what is it that I would gain if I smoked again. I would gain a another new quit date, I would smell like an ash tray again, my fitness level would go down again, I would have to own up to a relapse again. So you see I don't want that in my life again. Anyway not today. I thinks a nice reward would be nice. Maybe a quite spot to reflect on the benifits on NOT smoking. Remind yourself what a wonderful gift you have given yourself. Happy, When was the last time your rewarded yourself? Don't forget this is an important part of quit maintenance. Are you facing any triggers? Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Happy you have to know that smoking won't make the thought go away, time will, honestly you are almost at a year right? You are so close to the point where I bet you forget you ever smoked. My office mate told me it took her 16 months. She rarely thinks about it now. happy, The struggle is different for each of us but in my own experience - I never think about smoking now. Really, it's only when I come here. I was telling a co-worker about this site a few days ago and when I talked about me as a smoker I truly felt like I was talking about someone else. I say that to let you know that the light at the end of the tunnel isn't a mirage. I'm sure someone with a much better story will come along soon to help but please do hang in there and know that it is possible for smoking to completely be a "thing of the past". Happy, I bumped a thread for you called, "This is why you think about smoking", it should be right on this page. Hope it helps some. I too think about it all the time. I know I have been quit too long to even think about picking one up. But I seem to be thinking about it an awful lot here lately. I wonder does it ever go away? Sometime I just feel tortured. I realize more and more what an addict that I am. I know I have to just keep on keeping on. Someone who has been here please give me some insight. I don't want to lose all the work I have put into this quit, but sometimes it is unbearable.
