I am not really one to talk, but one of the reasons I am quiting on the 1st is because I lost 80 pounds on Weight Watchers, and I am 8 pounds from my goal weight. I went from a size 18 to a size 6. I love it. I have been working out and really love that. So I figured if I could do all that, I can quit smoking too. Anyways, in Weight Watchers, you have to record everything you eat in a book, with the point value (basically calories) so you are at least accountable to yourself and your little book. I have to look at it again and again if I go over. I am going to be on the program while I a quiting smoking for 6 months. (you stay on it after you lose your weight too so you don't gain it back) I am really hoping that when I quit, that will keep my eating in check.

I eat non-calorie or very low calorie foods. Like pickles, cucumbers, watermelon ... etc ... I drink non calorie drinks or diet drinks ... water, Crystal light, decaf coffee etc. ... I will chew sugar free gum. I figure if it helps me with the hand to mouth thing right now this early in my quit ... so be it. One thing I find that helps me is to keep a bowl of Shreddies (no milk) on the counter - then at least if I'm reaching for something, it's low in calories and high in fiber so it also helps to fill me up. Dont forget to drink your water - TONS of water. I like to look at it this way, time is going to go by regardless of what we do, a year from now we will be thin non smokers because we will have lost the weight we have gained by then. Of course the other option is to be thin smokers a year from now. NOT!!!! Skidoo

It's not even lunch time yet, and all I want to do is eat! I think my metabolism actually goes UP when I quit. I have carrots in my bag, but I'm supposed to be saving them for the afternoon when I know I'll be even hungrier. How do you guys deal with hunger pangs that you know are quit-related, rather than really needing food? I lost a whole bunch of weight a few months ago and do NOT want to gain it back, but I know I might have to balance that with needing to quit smoking. Yeah, I've been chewing gum like crazy! Apparently I gained two pounds yesterday. But I'm pretty sure that's me retaining water, because I went on the pill the same day that I quit. (which seems like bad timing, but I really didn't want to smoke while on the pill... extra bad for you) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/28/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 34 Amount Saved: $8.25 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 5 Mins: 17 Seconds: 40

when I was actually hungry, I ate. When I was HYPER, I ate, when I was anxious I ate sunflower seeds by the bag. Now I am on WW and can control all of it much better and weigh a little less than before I quit. ali, Almost all smokers notice this. You may tend to eat more than you used to. Your body's absorption of food is improved as well, so you will gain more nourishment even if you don't eat more. How long will this last? The first few weeks after quitting. Tips to help: Try low calorie snacks or beverages. If you have a symptom that persists or seems worse than you expected, you should immediately consult a doctor. Its possible that your smoking has been masking symptoms of some illness, and when you stop smoking the symptoms abruptly become noticeable.
