This is what I noticed. I have used cigarettes for decades instead of grabbing food. If I was hungry, and it wasn't lunch time, I'd have a cigarette. Instead of a bedtime snack, I'd have a cigarette. If I was someplace where I couldn't smoke, I'd eat when I wanted a cigarette. I can no longer tell whether I'm hungry or want a cigarette. I've spent so many years training my body to not tell the difference, that it's natural now. I was busy all day yesterday and wanted a smoke so bad, I was ready claw the walls. Then I looked at the clock and realized I was past lunchtime by two hours. I didn't want a cig. I was really hungry. It works just as well in reverse too. I'll have a craving and confuse it with wanting to eat. Now that I figured all this out, I don't know what to do with it.

Lets face it, I spend alot of time in the kitchen and thats not going to change, so have'n things that are better for me and the fam is a great id. Beside, the whole idea of this quit IS to get healther right.*grins* Well the kids are getting into something so gots to go. Thanks again for the care and keep the quit. Oh please someone help me!!! I am a stay at home mom and I've got this quit thing going and going well. Now can someone help me get ahold on this eat'n thing. I mean, I have never been one to just sit around and eat all day. Now...wow, what the heck is going on with me. I know a little over indulgence is normal when you quit smoking, but this is getting out of hand. I find myself walking in and out of the kitchen all day long. When I smoked, I would go out the kitchen door to have a smoke outside. I never smoked in my house so going out can still be hard for me. Now I stop and look out the back door, then head to the frig door. From what I have read this repacement eating may stay around for the first few weeks after a quit... I hope my waist line can handel it. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Hope *Slump? I ain't in no slump. Hope: Food, glorious food...! I am also having a hell of a time with food. I had lost 30 pounds before I quit smoking. I now have over 10 (don't want to talk about it... :() back again. Am swimming two days a week and recently bought a pass to walk an indoor track. Now I just gotta get to that track! What helps me is, of all thigs, ice water....gotta pee alot then, but it still helps with the craves! Those are my words of wisdom!!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 133 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,005 Amount Saved: $864.5 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 13 Mins: 52 Seconds: 23

*stepN N front of your fridge* Before I let U open it U have 2tell me what's N there! (I might want some ;p) I admit it. I grazed like cattle my first two weeks. Food was my number one 'smoke crave' buster. I still use cheese as a 'closer' after meals. I have gained 6 pounds. (Not too bad) However, I didn't/don't eat donuts, french fries, ect. and I exercise 5 days a week. So, the moral of my story is the same old song and dance. Eat right and exercise and you'll maintain a good weight...yada yada Personally Hope, I don't see anything wrong with quitting first if dietary changes are difficult right now. Also, remember this: "Never suppress laughter, because it will go back down and spread your hips" I'm sure that is true. ;) *stepN away from your fridge* ~all the best N2k p.s. Way2go on your excellent quit and for being a stay at home mom! Hey Hope, I'm right there w/ya. I'm a sahm too and it's REAL easy to just eat, eat, eat. I had a problem w/eating too much before quitting so I'm already dealing w/10 extra lbs I don't want. I used to smoke in our garage. I HATE going near the garage now, esp since my hubby still smokes and the smell and everything is still there. I just posted about drinking hot tea. Tea really helped me today with the eating and it really soothed my nerves. I've also heard eating an orange will help w/the cravings. Tell yourself that what your body is really craving is some ice cold water and drink lots of it all day. Get some exercise everyday at least 30 min along with some weight training if you can. It will burn those extra calories and you'll feel great!!

There are several diets out there that call for you to go through your refrigerator and cabinets and throw out all the fattening food. You could do that. Or, you could stock up on healthy snacks that don't add to your daily calories -- celery, carrots, etc. My doctor says don't worry about the weight gain right now. It's most important that you maintain your quit. You could put on 30 pounds and still be healthier than if you kept smoking. Of course, my doctor isn't buying my new and bigger clothes -- lol -- but he's got a good point.
