How are you doing Jeniwho? Looks like you received some great support here. I wanted to share with you that I had a slip around the 30 day mark too. This may or may not have anything to do with what you've experienced, but if it could, I want to mention it. The main thing is to learn from it, and like Nonic said "...grow yourself out of this addiction." Hang in there and be good to yourself:) -mamakitty My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 54 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 810 Amount Saved: $216.00 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 14 Mins: 40 Seconds: 14

jeni Thats the right attitude. So much of this struggle is about attitude and transforming our perceptions concerning smoking. The core of altering this perception is centered in the understanding that the act of smoking has no bearing on events and situations in our external environment. It changes nothing. In any given moment we are who we are regardless of whether we smoke or not. Smoking has no upside to it, only the downside of bringing on poor health. nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 220 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,600 Amount Saved: $1,540.00 Life Gained: Days: 40 Hrs: 3 Mins: 22 Seconds: 5

Thank you for all the great information. I did not smoke at all today and part of it (other then my determination) was the fact that almost all day I have had a massive headache. I have not had one for a month and I know it is from smoking, yuck! I am not giving up and I am not going to let this control me. jeni The best thing to do is that which you feel in your heart of hearts to be correct action. You own those 30 odd days. They did not dissipate with the "magic blue clouds". You decided to fight for them and they are yours. The only thing that you must do now is have a quiet conversation with yourself. Look closely at why you smoked...That is the root of the behaviour...And this addiction is just that, a deeply rooted response to stimuli in our environment. Sadly it just happens to involve a very addictive substance that reinforces the behaviour. It also bedevils our emotions especially when we get "tangled up in blue" (thanks Mr. Dylan)...You say you smoked because you had a "lot of crap going on"...Well define that a little more and understand what in these events is causing you anxiety and realize that you can handle it without cigarettes. I promise you that whatever it is you can handle it sans nicotine. I know that you want to quit and the very fact that you came here and said what you said, tells me that you have the ability to be honest with yourself. Do you know that that trait is absent in many, many people. It can be painful to look at ourselves full square...But in that pain lies the seeds of our humanity. We are not perfect. Stumbling is a natural way of going for us, we just have to have the will to right ourselves again. So go on now and plant a few of those seeds in your life and grow yourself out of this addiction. nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 219 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,570 Amount Saved: $1,533.00 Life Gained: Days: 40 Hrs: 1 Mins: 30 Seconds: 11

It's hard to say, Jeni, but you should be prepare dfor at least some craving & have a plan for it. I would say for most people, 1/2 pack is enough to wake up the junkie & give her some strength, so don't be surprised at some craving in the next couple of days. The imortant thing is you learn something from the slip, like what are you going to do next time you have a lot going on? Whatever the triggerrs were, try to come up with a strategy for the same or similar next time. Congrats for getting back on & staying positive about your quit, jeni, that's 1/2 the battle!! Hey Jeni, Don't worry about the meter right now. It is not like day 1 because you have over a month of healing that your body and mind benefitted from and you can't take that away. Get right back with it TODAY. Throw away that 1/2 pack if you haven't already. Sound like you didn't smoke today. Yeah you maybe took a step back but you have to run 4 miles tonight and that will get you back on track!!!! Like Josie said, everyone is different, hopefully the craves will be the same as if this little incident never happened-think positively. No more though, OK? Every is different! We are not here to judge only to support and guide you. Learn from this and get prepared to get back in there! Only your body will know how to react, but take it day by day and don't be discouraged, you have come a long way to give up now :) Josie, Support Specialist
