Wow! This one really hit home with me - sorry, don't have the quote thing down as yet:
JUNKIE THINKING: "I really need to smoke now, I'm so upset."
RESPONSE: "Smoking is not going to fix anything. I'll still be upset, I'll just be an upset smoker. I never have to have a cigarette. Smoking is not a need; it's a want. Once the crisis is over, I'll be relieved and grateful I'm still not smoking."
Fits me to a tee with what's been going on with me recently. Thank you all for keeping this one bumped up.

I liked this part of the thread particularly because if this quit is going to work I will have to get round the junky thinking voice that tries to convince that I dont care.
JUNKIE THINKING: "I don't care."
RESPONSE: "What is it exactly that I think that I don't care about? Can I truthfully say I don't care about chest pain? I don't care about gagging in the morning? I don't care about lung cancer? No, I care about these things very much. That's why I stopped smoking in the first place."
As I write it I remember being a child, how it never would have occured to me to smoke. it took a really smart sophisticated adult junky brain to do that!
Junkie Thinking's twin brother is in my head right now but thanks to these posts, I feel at bit more equip to handle him.
I put a sign up in my mind that says, "Don't feed the Junkie." :D
Thank you so much. I needed this post today!
