My favourite book, "Sabbath" has a description of a "corrosive myth" which creates the illusion that service to others is a painful & dreary thing. This myth comes about by the little value society places on resting from the world, especially for those who take care of others, in paid or unpaid work. There's a perception that our joy and delight may somehow steal from the poor, or add to the sorrows of the those who suffer, weaving that yarn. "Just as there is time for every purpose...,so is there a time for nourishment and joy, especially among those who would serve...".
