YAY!!!  GOOD FOR YOU, WT!!!!!

I'll be logging in later to hear about your success with day number 2!!!!

Looking forward to it!  Enjoy that ginger ale, my friend!  I'll have my seltzer and juice tonight and think of you.

Sending you a virtual cheers tonight!!!  Don't leave me hanging, LOL!

I did it!

That first night is always the hardest for me and I'm through it now.  I amused myself with Scrabble online and had a nice glass of Gingerale with a squeeze of lime while preparing dinner.  Although sleep was fretful, I still feel more rested than I would have if I had consumed several glasses of wine and I feel better about myself for getting through it.  Tonight will be easier because I'm motivated by that small success.  I do have a prescription for something to help me sleep if I really need it and I will keep it in mind for when it's really needed.  I also know that Melatonin helps me sleep when I'm stressed so I will try that as well.  I also talk with my doctor about my back and neck pain to see what he recommends.

Thanks so much Flipflopmom for being there to root me on.  It really does make a difference knowing someone who understands is out there somewhere listening...

You need a new "normal" WT, for your 6pm happy hour behavior.  I'm siting here drinking my seltzer and juice... my new go to drink while I cook.

I would strongly suggest you call your doctor and see about something to take to help you sleep, help you deal with your pain, etc.  The correct medicine for these conditions works MUCH BETTER than alcohol, and this is what the medicines were made for!  I'm sooo not a pill popper, WT, please understand, but sometimes it's really warranted.  Why struggle with alcohol when you could get better treatment for your medical conditions?

I'm proud of you pouring that wine out.  I've done that so many times I can't begin to count!  :)  You'll get through this... one day at a time.  I'm rooting for you, WT!!!!

I poured the better part of a bottle of wine down the drain this morning.  I know that if it's there, I will drink it.  The funny part is that I didn't even enjoy that last glass last night.  It just made me feel tired and guilty and sick of the whole thing.  The problem is that 6 o'clock will inevitably roll around and the habitual want for a glass in my hand will return.  I've used that glass of wine to deal with pain and stress, to celebrate a success, to mellow out after a busy day, to help me fall asleep... It seems like I can find a thousand reasons to have just one more.  But if I think about it, I can find a thousand reasons not to drink anymore too.  That's how I will spend my day today, reminding myself that there are a lot of reasons to stop for good.

Thanks Flipflopmom,  I will keep these ideas in mind and talk to my doctor about the back and neck pain.  I do see a chiropractor and am blessed enough to have insurance coverage for massage but these only work to a point.  It's remarkable that I had not even realized until now that I have been "self-medicating" so to speak.  This is not the only reason I drink too much wine but it is definitely a factor and I will need to find a healthier option for sure.

Hello there wastedtime,

One of the things I did was go to the doctor for my chronic back pain, and to my GP for anxiety medicine.  I take a daily medicine for anxiety, I have Xanax for help when I can't sleep (I don't take that too often) and tramadol when my back flares up. (I barely ever take the tramadol anymore.)  These meds have helped me a bunch, especially the buspar for daily anxiety.

I hope this helps.  I would suggest you see a doctor for a medication that will help you with your chronic pain.  A friend of mine is a cancer survivor, and takes Cymbalta for her neuropathy pain and depression.  It works great for her.

Best of luck.  Keep posting, no matter what.  I'm looking for you on here.

Well, yesterday was my quit day and it did not go well.  I had terrible back and neck pain and turned to my wine glass to settle it down.  Until now I didn't realize how much I rely on a few glasses of wine to manage the chronic pain I have had for years so at least I have learned something from it.  Clearly I need to find a more appropriate way to deal with chronic pain.  Yoga comes to mind but if anyone has other suggestions I would love to hear them.
