Hi John,

I experienced the same memory challenges the first few weeks. It will pass, just be patient.

regards.

Hi Foxman,

The concept of PAWS isn't something the this gentleman came up with, although he may be providing his explanation as it relates to his experience with AA. Perhaps I'm reading something into your post that wasn't intended.

Interesting. I see this gentleman has taken bits and pieces of ideas for AA and presented it in a different format and suddenly talks about meditation and spirituality at the end. Something similar to what Bill W did back in 1930s, taking ideas from various sources: The nature for the problem from Dr. William D Silkworth, the spiritual solution from Carl Jung and then the recovery piece from the then Oxford Group. Hey if it helps somebody, its all for good.

Dave, thank you so much for posting these links!  It's exactly the sort of information I was wondering about this morning.  After 11 days sober, I still have horrible headaches in the morning, and my short term memory is laughably bad.  I feel like crying because my work is mental and I'm supposed to be the guy who fixes everyone's problems -- not some guy who have you have to tell the same thing over and over.  This is really scary!  And when do these headaches stop?  John

Hi all,

As I've been researching the subject of recovery I came across the subject of PAWS-Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome. It's certainly worth reading up on helps define the longer term challenge of wrestling with the obsticles of recovery and over-coming them. Here are some links to resources on the subject:

http://whatmesober.com/personal-writing-about-addiction-and-recovery/early-recovery/paws/

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/alcoholism/142495-post-acute-withdrawal-syndrome-paws-experiences.html

It certainly explains a lot and is helpful understanding the longer term challenge of recovering after the immediate effects of withdrawal.

I hope this helps and adds to the tool box.

Best regards,

Dave
