Thanks Matthew. I did it! Woo hoo! There was still a bit of a guilt trip...I knew it was inevitable. Friend said, "you won't be reckless if you're drinking with us. You can have just a few. Come on.. it's my birthday." But I said no and she did respect that.
I can see how you may have hesitated to make a pledge tonight with your friend in town, but it is great that you made this public commitment for the good of your health.
If you do become tempted, remember there are some techniques you can use to help like the emergency coping plan (avoid, distract, self talk, delay, leave), effective ways to go about saying no thanks, and also tips and techniques on making your own rules if you will be out. Feel free to check out the program if need any more info.
Thanks for taking the time to pledge, and enjoy the time with your friend
I'm going to try my best not to drink tonight at all. I'm feeling really tempted because my friend is visiting and I feel like it would just ... be fun. But I will do my best not to. I hesitated to pledge today because I didn't want to pledge if I thought I might not follow through but I think this is probably when I need to be most accountable, when I will be faced with tempting situations. Hope your Fridays are relaxing all.
I extend my hand out to other members, in the hopes that they will grab hold of it, and that as one we can pull together, becoming stronger, helping each other to fulfill our hopes and desires to recover from our alcohol abuse.
Be well,
David.
God,
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change,
