Hi Brenda,

Congrats on quitting smoking. It looks like you are already through the toughest part!

Some weight gain is common while quitting smoking. Watch the calories in and try to move your body more. Every little bit counts. As Timbo said, I also encourage you to search the forums as there are lots of great discussions on weight gain here.

Hi Brenda W,
Welcome to the Stop Smoking Center, and a BIG congratulations on quitting smoking!  You have every right to be proud of yourself for doing this too. Nobody could do it for you, only you could do this for yourself.  Don't worry too much about the weight gain, those pounds should start coming off as you get more active with your NEW lifestyle as a non-smoker. Can you believe that you can say that you are not a smoker now, or hasn't it sunk in yet? I gained about 16 pounds when I quit, and with a change to the lifestyle, those pounds are gone now, along with a few more.  Keep working on being a quitter, it's more important to quit smoking than to worry about a little weight gain. Once you have your quit well under control, then you can start concentrating on the weight loss. There is another forum on here "smoking cessation and weight-gain" that might have some information to help you out. If you have the time read through it. You are going to become more active now that you quit smoking, and that's going to help too. As you know fruits and veggies are better for you than chips and cookies.   Once again, congratulations on your quit journey!!
Stay strong.
