Hi Pappy,
"Sounds crazy, but after smoking for as long as I did, that is a huge milestone for me." And it feels good doesn't it? Nobody did it for you, its all your doing. Feeling good in heck week about your quit is awesome too. To be honest it does not sound "crazy" to me.
You're doing it Pappy, you're becoming a quitter...and a winner! Just be sure and keep your guard up at all times. You never know when that Nico-Demon will try and make you cave in.
Stay strong, and enjoy the smokeless good times with your grandchildren!

Thanks Stellablue. It is great to have a place where we can go and share our experiences with this challenge in life. It's so hard for people who have never had to fight this addiction to really understand or relate to what it is like to quit this awful habit.
With my fifth grandchild on the way I realized I was only being selfish to continue with my addiction. I so much want to share in their lives in growing up. When I have the urge to smoke it helps to keep me focus on what I need to do just thinking of what I would be missing if I wasn't around to share the love and joy that they bring to my life. One battle at a time, one day at a time is bringing me that much closer to freedom from my nicotine addiction.

Yay Pappy, I'm right there with you - I so remember how amazing it felt to realize I had gone a long stretch of time without even thinking about smoking, let alone having an actual craving to smoke.  And it doesn't take that long to start happening - our brains are pretty neat things, and they get the message pretty quickly when we stop feeding the nicotine beast.  I'm so happy for you.  This is a huge milestone, and a glimpse into the future as a non-smoker.  Those stretches of time will continue to lengthen, and one day you'll realize you went a whole day without thinking of cigarettes. As you've noticed already though, quitting isn't a 100% linear experience, so don't stress if a day pops up where smoking is on your mind more than the day before.  Just ride it out, it all settles down in time and the overall trajectory continues upward :)

There is some really good quitting going on in this forum right now, and I am so pumped for it all.

I can hardly believe it. Yesterday was the first time in a very long time that there were actually long periods of time where I didn't have any thoughts of having a cigarette. No thoughts of how much I miss them or how nice it would be just to have one.  Sounds crazy, but after smoking for as long as I did, that is a huge milestone for me. I can't believe I am almost through my secind week already. I want, I need, I will kick this devil straight in the ass and come out the winner.
