Is avoidance a necessary symptom?

I know how you feel. I get random panic attacks during stressful times of my life. Then they go away completely until I get stressed again. I do not avoid anything. I go out in public, work, drive, go to crowded places. My attacks are so random which defintely makes it harder to get better. I will be relaxing in bed reading and get one out of the blue. Doesn't make sense to me. I wish I knew what caused them.

Hi all, I've been reading different web sites about panic attacks and many of them avoiding triggers as a symptom. I feel I have many symptoms or characteristics of someone with panic attacks (racing heart, feeling tense, trembling, feelings of "losing it" etc)but I don't think I avoid things that can trigger them. I just came to this realization recently and so I don't know what exactly trigger my attacks so I haven't gotten to a stage that I avoid things, not that I want to get there. :p
