My Quit

for 13 år siden 0 35 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Thanks for the support everyone it is greatly appreciated...

I have had a relapse..I know you hate to hear this and I hate to have to say it more than you know...but I have to be honest here...I am still having issues with the withdrawal and my anger is my biggest obstacle..I am working on trying to find a way to deal with it ...I am even thinking about taking a class in anger management next semester at my local community collage adult school...Speaking of being a adult it would be nice if I could handle this quit like a grown adult..I never really seemed to learn how to handle my emotions and feeling. I spend the last 43 years of my life masking my feeling with nicotine..I just didn't grow in this sense..So it is extremely painful feeling all the feeling now that I am 57..I am hoping I can learn how to do this and it isn't to late for me..I have had to overcome and handle many difficult and painful situation in my life and came of it out ok..For some reason this quiting is so hard and painful for me..I really do want to quit and make this my final quit because at my age time is of the essence..I do not have all the time in the world to do this now..Sorry for the long post..but I am having a hard time of it..I just want to grow up quit smoking and get on with my life..

Thanks for listening,
jdoe

Hi jdoe ! Great to hear you sounding so positive on day 3 ! Your on your way and doing great! Remember N.O.P.E. and you can not fail.

Hi Eyja ! Great advice on Carr's book. It's a short read and everyone trying to quit should do themselves a favor and read it. (I got a copy from the Library......Priceless ! )

Hi Eyja,,
Thanks for the post and helpful tips...I made it through day three today and am feeling really good tonight..So it's off to tackle day 4 in the morning...This quit seems easier than the others.. I guess we learn from experience and the help of others like you...

Have a good night..
Till next time...

Hi jdoe;
Hope you have a better night tonight!  I had weird dreams and crazy nights at the beginning of my cold turkey quit too. I did what you did in the middle of the night when the cravings got really bad -I got up and starting reading posts here.  The Hall of Fame (here) can keep you busy for hours; I know! I also found peppermint tea at night helped calm me down when feeling so alone - sitting at my computer at 4 AM - wondering if I could get through the night without driving to the store to pick up a pack of smokes!
To replace smoking, I tried those nicotine inhalers but found them harsh & gross, so I just chewed the plastic 'tip' until it was wrecked (I didn't put the nicotine charge in).
Also, if you haven't read Allen Carr's book; the "Easy Way to Stop Smoking" yet, you can google his name and get a glimmer of his quitting philosophy; it is very helpful too.
Will send along sweet dreams for you meantime. You're doing good! Everyday this week leads you one day closer toward a successful NOPE conclusion and good riddance to 'Hell Week'!   : )

Update:
Well today is day 2 of my cold turkey quit..Sleeping was hard last night and the nightmares were bad plus had some physical distress while sleeping. ...I am hoping tonight will be better..My craving are a little stronger this morning so I am going to go for a casual walk and see if that helps. I went for a walk yesterday and it seemed to help me...

Till next time...

Hi again jdoe; Hope you're doing okay today with no one in the line of fire from your punching bag jabs! Ouch! Have your tried roasted sunflower seeds?  They're pretty low cal & require a lot of hand to mouth action.  Shevie (online & in the Hall of Fame here at SSC) gave me this tip in my early Quit days and it helped a lot for those times when I felt like I needed to have something to do with my hands. They make a bit of a mess, but it's lot better to fill your ashtrays with SF husks than stinky cig butts!  You'er doing great jdoe!  Keep working on it!  You can do it : ) Eyja

Ashley,

In response to your previous post about taking little breaks because I deserve them and replacing them with something other than cigarettes...This is a great idea..It reminds me of  how I learned to give myself rewards in the panic center and I got really good at it...So I can just apply that idea here also..Replacing negative rewards with positive rewards..

Thanks again Ashley,
jdoe
