Thanks for bumping this post forward Cheryl!

I'm glad that Chambs had a chance to read a post from another great SSC quitter! I just celebrated my 12 year Quit Anniversary and thought I'd check in to see how everyone is doing... AND let Chambs and every new quitter know that you CAN quit IF you desire your freedom from nicotine more that you desire to inhale all of those nasty addicting chemicals!!!

There are posts here on these forums from years ago that have special messages of support and methods on how to cope with everything you may be experiencing. Hopefully the search function still works and all you have to do is type in a key word that used to take you to hundreds of threads in that subject. I'll try it and report.

Just know that if all of us old farts and die-hard smokers were able to quit, you can do it too!!

keep the quit!!!!

Jim

Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for stopping in and giving us your words of encouragement! Also congratulations on being smoke free for over 14 years now. Yes it was hard at first, but WELL worth it in the end. It's awesome being free from that nasty addiction. If we can do it, they can too. It just takes a lot of will power...and a change in your lifestyle at the beginning.

Enjoy those pleasant aromas that you can smell now! ?

Hello to all you quitters,

I was once in your place and feeling scared and worried and sure that I could not do this Quit thing. But there is life on the other end of this. I have now been clean 14 years! Yes, 14 years. It is possible and a lot easier each day that goes by. So breathe deep and pull up your I CAN power and keep going. It is amazing, I used to not smell smoke in my house and around others; but now I can smell it when I am out walking when a car goes by that someone is smoking inside . Or walk into an elevator and smell that a smoker has been there. It does not tempt me to smoke believe me. It smells bad. like a wet campfire. Spend your time here. giving parties, playing games, visiting with your group. The time passes slowly at first but like growing up it goes faster and faster next thing you know you have graduated and are out in the world. Your not to old to stop. I will be 68 this year which means that I was 54 when I stopped and had been smoking since I was in Jr. high school. YOU CAN DO IT! one breath at a time.

NO Joking Still Not Smoking. Good luck to all of you. Cheryl

Here I am.  I just stopped in to remind myself that I can get through anything. I actually found a lot of people are still here paying it forward, or back for having achieved their own quit. I even went back in the archives and read old time post from those first days. I was so scared that I would not make it.  But!!!!  Here I am and still not smoking. NOPE and the bracelet is still shinning.  Thanks to those who put up with all the middle of the night chatting and the parties and the just plain fantasy world that helped to survive those first few months.  It does and did get easier. I don't have cravings any more.  Every once in a while I get a whiff of someone else's cig and flashback to the useless hours that I spent wasting my life.  Thanks to this site, and all the many friends I made here, I am done.  And breathing free.
