I think you should celebrate both Brenda, good idea. It didn't even occur to me that I wasn't quit til I went off patches, I think that was Valentine's Day! But I celebrate on 1 January every year, regardless.

You Go Girl - Speak Your Mind and what is true, what worked for you, and your "personal/individual opinion and thoughts!!!

For me "personally" I was addicted to the nicotine, mentally, emotionally, every way possible and have used patches, gum, smoking cessation classes, shots, Zyban, Chantix - and no matter what I used or if I went hours, days, weeks or months, I considered myself "Quit" if I was not lighting a cigarette and literally smoking. Just because we use a patch or gum or whatever does not mean that we are not smoke free. I'm with you 100% that your QUIT DATE is when you stopped smoking NOT when you quit NRT!!!

Thanks for all your encouragement and setting a good example for others and thanks for continuing to post and check on others instead of becoming "holier" than thou attitude.

thank you brenda... you are right! as i am sure everyone on this site will agree... that is why the ssc is so good... there are no limits no fingers blaming pointing, judging or critizing... everyone here is happy that we are trying and hoping we are succeeeding... i like the 2 birthdays...heck sometime i have more...

1. actual quit day 2. the count after my slip 3. my 1 mth 4. my 30, 60 ,90 etc days...you get the point...

i think everyone here gets it...it's about trying and doing it NOPE any way you can!!!

Dear Brenda,

I'm so glad you stuck up for your quit and your ideals! I, like you, did not give up Nicotine on my quit day, but without the aids I would not have made it. The physical symptoms (with the aids) were very bad and medically I was advised NOT to use cold turkey.

I searched around groups for support, and that is why I ended up here on SSC, where tolerance and reason were the order of the day. People in other groups, with their sanctimonious preaching, are very welcome to stay together and preach.

Man alive, what's the deal with the secretary? Good for you sticking up for what you believed in - I wonder how many people have left that group and continued to smoke because of the lack of support? That's exactly why I didn't join a live group but focused my quit community efforts here on the SSC. I come and go when I want, I give when I need and take when I need and it's all given me over three years of smobriety. The mantra here is more important that I think we realise: take what you need and leave the rest. But that is the very reason why the successful quitters through this site number in the hundreds (thousands? Mods, any big stats to share?)

I think you made a lot of valid points. Speaking your mind at this meeting took a lot of courage. Good for you. I am sure many people in the audience agreed with you and were thankful you spoke up.

Quitting smoking is different for everyone. Some people are more successful with NRTs others cold turkey. To me it doesn't matter how you quit just as long as you quit. Come here to celebrate your year anniversay Brenda; we will be sure to celebrate with you!

You are right, Brenda. When you celebrate is a matter of choice. Whether or not you are still receiving nicotine really isn't the issue when you have the mindset to quit and are no longer receiving the nicotine by smoking. I wouldn't worry too much about this group. People have different opinions about issues. Just like some online quit groups are not accepting of any failure and give you h$(( if you slip or fall. One of the reasons I like SSC so much is they recognise the human addiction aspect of smoking. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, BRENDA! One year is A-W-E-S-O-M-E!
