The amount of dopamine also decreases when we quit smoking. That often causes sleeping problems until our bodies adjust. Interesting enough, nicotine attaches to the same receptors that many of the psych meds do.

I found some deep breathing techniques are helpful to reduce stress.  That and yoga and exercising are great stress reducers.  Hope it gets easier.  Keep your chin up!

Hey all,

I had a better night sleep than the last few nights but it was far from great. At about 3am this morning though it all clicked.

I'm having trouble sleeping because through my smoking career I have always smoked as a stress reliever. This directly connects stress with smoking at a subconscious level.  I have come to the conclusion that when I am thinking about a stressful situation, a deadline at work for example, I also automatically think about smoking. I have put a great deal of energy in combating the direct nicotine induced cravings to smoke but, now also realize I must put more energy in dealing with stress. Any kind of stress for the time been.

I am trying to work through a bad craving to smoke as I write this....Sorry if this post is coming off as rambling but it is a great distraction.

Tonight I'm going to take a Unisom sleeping pill to help me get some much needed rest. Not getting enough sleep has made all kinds if more stressful then they should be, and I need to take some real actions to not stress out.

Anyhow thanks for listening.
