Hi all, finally got over my NRT addiction two weeks ago after 6 months, had hell doing it. Up to 10% of quitters just stay on NRT more than a year. Do your best to stick with the withdrawal plan that comes with the pack but be warned a minority of us have a significantly distressing withdrawal syndrome coming off NRT. i would advise in all cases choose an NRT if no other method will keep you from lighting up, I would still do that should some freak occurence put me in actual danger of relapsing on to smokes. As far as I'm aware my experience is a minority one? But for me my true quit is only 2 weeks old as on all my previous quits of up to 4 months I never before got off NRT without relapsing. I've finally spent my first days totally nic free after 37 years, I'm convinced I finally have it beaten.

Well done on getting that first week done!  Sometimes experimenting with different things is the only way you'll know what is best for you.  Try to just take it as it comes and have a number of tools and strategies at hand so that you are always prepared.  Deep breathing, drinking water, stretching or popping a piece of gum each have their place at different times. 
 
I think as smokers we got so used to our patterns that we try to fit our quits into the same box but it doesn't always work.  Be flexible, avoid hurting puppies, post here, and you'll be fine
 
Also - the anger is normal, weird but normal, and so is that feeling of grief or that something is missing.  If you search those keywords you'll find tons of threads about them.  I too was an angry quitter for a couple weeks but it goes away.  Don't forget to reward yourself for those EIGHT GREAT DAYS!

I used Australian chewing sticks for a short while, (flavored toothpicks) and started drinking lots of herbal tea, I sipped on hot tea all day long, along with my ice water.
