bgaines,

Good for you for using those coping mechanisms to get you through this.  Continue to change up those routines and avoid triggers to help you progress. The craves will lessen and you will find they will be in the back of your head and eventually dwindle away.  It does take time and you are doing a great job!

Don't sell yourself short, this is achievable and you are at 23 days, reward time!

Yeah. I decided that the reason I was still jonesing badly was because I was still addicted to nicotine. I got tired of chewing the gum and was biting the inside of my mouth, and the patches do not contain enough nicotine. 21 mg max is equal to chewing just four pieces of max strength nicotine gum. While using the patches, I crave big time. It's like I am going cold turkey, without planning too. So I'm never prepared for the strong feelings of withdrawal that comes from using the patches. I see why many people use two to three of them.

Bgaines - I am so glad you posted this.  Good job and congratulations, first of all, on taking that step!!!

It is good to hear someone elses experience - I am thinking about stopping the patch too.

I hope it is better for you this time.  You must of liked the way you felt not smoking, otherwise you wouldn't be quitting again, right?  All the best to you getting rid of the nicotine from your system.  You could actually offer advice to some of us!!
Hope your night is ok.

I'm smoke free. I went off of the gum and patches because they were still keeping me craving nicotine. So I went cold turkey a day ago. I wanted to smoke really badly today. So I went out to Walgreens, bought chocolate and Wrigley's gum. Was waiting for a bus and still jonesing, so I walked from the bus stop to the grocery store and bought a half pound of pastrami and a half pound of corned beef. What I do with the lunch meat, for those of you who like to cook, is fill a frying pan with water, and then place my meat and rye bread on top of grease screen that I place over the frying pan. The meat and bread steams and tastes just like it came from a deli.

I had to just keep reminding myself that I don't want to throw any time away and that smoking one cigarette would start the cycle again. I hav to promise myself that it gets easier. That's a hard one, because I quit smoking for a few years in the past, and I never stopped craving cigarettes. So I'm sort of feel like I'm lying to myself when I say it gets easier. The cravings just get farther apart, but years later, they can still blindside you.
