Welcome Momma D and congratulations on your decision to stop smoking....
I, too am going to fess up here---shortly after I stopped smoking March 1st --I developed symptoms during exercise (aroebics-which I have done for over 10 years-severe leg pain--circulatory)--as it turns out--I will also be needing surgery....I am so glad I stopped before I was told I HAD to quit.
But---coming to this site has been the most helpful aspect for me toward my quit. Seeing the success stories & seeing that it can indeed be beat--one day at a time has really helped me along. Remembering NOPE--(Not One Puff Ever)
Walk with us, Mamma D--read the threads, post when you need help & watch your quit grow.....
There is strength in numbers & we'd be delighted to have you walk this journey with us......

Come here as much as you can to get the support that you need,
it really helped me. Staying away from this site, sends my quit to the back of my mind and lets "negative thinking" like "I can still smoke" in. So, keep on posting, keep on reading and keep on quitting!

I learned this from a 3 month quit I had a few years ago........ I'm quit now for a little over 6 weeks, in those first weeks of this quit when the craves were so horrible that I would find myself sitting in a stores parking lot and telling myself how good just one cigarette would taste I reminded myself of how I lost my 3month quit with just 1 cigarette I told myself if one would taste so good today that just one would taste so good the next day and the next, that's how I got myself to not go in and buy a pack....... just keep reminding yourself that we are addicts and can never be just PART TIME Smokers. It does get easier I still have some really strong craves but I haven't found myself tempted to buy a pack in several weeks.
((( hugs )))

Your post hits home to me. I haven't shared this info here yet but my experience has been one that I should share with you. Last fall I underwent a minor surgery. I had cut down my intake prior but I was still smoking a little. I told the doctor I had quit because we just switched insurance and I was planning on quitting soon. How many times have i told myself that? Well, a long story short. I developed a Deep Vein Thrombosis after being put under. What followed was a 7 day period where i could have either survived or not. That was followed by a month of 48 injections in the stomach, followed by another 6 months of coumadin which my system despised. I had to fess up and the surgeon said it was most likely caused by smoking. Blood clots are 4-6 times more likely in smokers, according to him. I don't mean to scare you but I feel obligated to tell the truth about what can happen. Luckily I came out the other side OK but a pretty good chunk of change in debt. I quit shortly after that experience. I was otherwise in general good health, despite smoking, when this happened. Be honest with your doctor about when you quit, etc. He also said this could have been prevented by use of an anti-clotting drug they use with long time smokers.
I truly hope you can find the strength to continue on. Stopping the addiction will bring brighter days your way. Be kind to yourself and know there are many here who will try to guide you through this.
I wish you good luck.

Don't give up, just take a walk if you can and walk off the crave. Or chew on a straw, or gum.
Drink lots of ice water and try deep breathing. Nice and slow breathing. This will calm you down and help the crave go away. Best thing is when you get a crave stop what you are doing and do something else until the crave passes.
Post as much as you need to and read read read.

My wife quit the day after me, and she went through the same thing. I thought that she was mad at me all the time!!
I found through the people here, that she just needed to vent her emotions. She's better now. She still has her moments of wanting to smoke, as I'm sure most of us do, but it really is worth becoming the emotional wrecks that seem to plague us after we stop smoking.
Hang tough, it's worth the trip!!!!

Stay strong and know that you are making the right choice! You can light up, but you choose not to! Take some you time and do something nice for yourself. Go for coffee with a friend or relax in a hot bath with a book.
I am only on day 4 now but I feel like I'm drowning. Just had a spat with my partner (nothing serious at all...I'm just plain pissed that I cannot light up) Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I have had 2 slip ups and I know I cannot even have the one puffs that I've takened. I must keep thinking N O P E I have to make it this time. Planning on having surgery in 3 months and I am scared silly about being put to sleep. Will check back soon.
