Lady, that's a great point and one I hadn't really taken advantage of. How did you go about acquiring your quit buddies? Often I feel like I take a lot more help than I give - I don't know how good of a buddy I'd be. keep on keepin' on - fish My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/21/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 98 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,960 Amount Saved: $490 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 18 Mins: 16 Seconds: 49

Fish... I hadn't seen this post before but it is a great one. Thank you for bringing it back to the surface. I just want to express the importance of the quit buddies. Quit buddies will save you from yourself! Trust me....mine have saved me on numerous occassions. Exchange email/chat addresses with a couple of people to be accoutable to. I cannot express the gratitude I have for my quit buddies. They are the best in the world and I never would have made it this far without them. This is a soul searching, life-changing experience. Enjoy it. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 271 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,433 Amount Saved: $948.5 Life Gained: Days: 23 Hrs: 22 Mins: 34 Seconds: 24

Fish... My quit buddies started out as those that were in the same boat as I (approximately same quit times). Then they turned into those that were there when I was in need. We developed relationships from there. Now my quit buddies range in the time they have quit. What matters is that there is someone there willing to hold your hand and listen to you cry when you need it. Pretty much it was a thing of chance for me. If you can download the SSC Messenger and sign on that is where you can exchange email addresses. There is also an unofficial site we call NOPE that we go to that has a list of a lot of us here and pictures too. If you download the messenger and sign on...just about anyone who comes along can tell you how to get there. Sorry. We can't display the address here. I'll watch for you on the messenger. Ofcoarse you know that you can always chat through these boards as well. Just like you and Iwin were just doing. If you can't figure it out, post again and we'll work something out. I also bumped a thread in the "Support Questions" forum called "Instant Messenger" This should help you down load the messenger and then add people to your buddy list so you can see when they are on. I am logged in and will leave mine up most of the evening. When you get it downloaded, just send me a message. Hope this helps.
Quit buddies will save you from yourself!
LMAO!!! That is SOOOOOOOOOOO true!!! Fish, I didn't see this before either, so thank you for posting it. It's definitely some good stuff and sometimes true. I didn't have too many quit buddies when I first started out... I think it wasn't until definitely after 1 month, and possibly 2-3 months that I started really getting close to certain people... but as soon as I did, and learned that I could count on them to help me through whatever I was going through, it's been a LOT easier. Sometimes they drag me along, sometimes I'm dragging them along and sometimes I think we drag each other... but we all make it smoke free somehow. Like Lady, I can't stress enough the importance of some good quit buddies. Mine range from less than 1 month to over a year, so it doesn't really matter where they are in the quit process. And never doubt how good of a buddy you will be... you have no idea how much your quit buddies will appreciate just having you there... I know I appreciate mine! Crave the Quit! I do remember IWIN's post and it's a keeper. Thanks for bringing it back up front. Phreaknbz, one of these days you're going to realize you've forgotten you've quit smoking. A thought will just pop into your head, "Gee, I haven't thought of smoking since ... when?". Then you'll know you have passed from quitter to ex-smoker (or non-smoker, as you prefer). Mine happened around January, or so. I wasn't a struggle up to that point. Hasn't been a struggle since August, really. So it's coming for you, too. Just have patience and you'll get there. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 313 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,278 Amount Saved: $1189.4 Life Gained: Days: 58 Hrs: 12 Mins: 39 Seconds: 50
