How does your panic start?

Mine can start with a sense of fear or a loud noise or even just something I may have thought about. It's then up to me whether it gets away from me or not. My therapist tells me to always remember my successes to counter any bad thoughts that might be entering my mind. I had an anxiety attack last night that nearly turned into panic and then I took 1/2 a valium and was calmed a little while later. I then had a de javu feeling and then took another 1/2 because de ja vus can often forecast a problem with me. Anyone else have this too? I woke up feeling sluggish, probably from the valium. Also had a weird dream where in the dream nothing was the same. I wonder if there was a movie on my TV, which was on while I was sleeping, that had story line like that. I am now going to the gym before work. David

I don't know if there is one common symptom at the onset of a panic attack. Mine usually begins when I feel a pain in my body. My mind begins racing as well as my heart and then I feel faint and very disconnected from the world. These are the worst attacks and its really amplified if I am alone in public. I really hate the feeling and fortunately they don't happen that often anymore since I am bein g treated by a Dr. who really is patient and unnderstanding. All of my friends and family who believe in me and know I'm not making this whole thing up are just amazed when I describe a panic attack and how it feels to them. They are also very understanding and hang in there with me through it all. I hope you have the same support system as well. Take care Rose

Sounds like weve fallen to the same problem. Mine are getting into cars and being far from home. (mind you this could be 1 to 2 miles.) Worst part about this is that "I" made this problem. I wanted to stay away from everyone after brain surgery that being away so long from daily activity turned into a huge problem being out in public. Ive heard many medications that could help but I refuse that course. This site is helping alot with showing me what my problems are and what would help. Something im not used to but I learn now to slowly take "babysteps" to get back into being who I once was.....a person like everyone else. Those of us that have free time for ourselves actually stress ourselves with what our problems are and how much worse they can be. We need to gain control of our personal thoughts and point them into a 'positive" outlook of a cure for ourselves, not leave our thoughts and pains in the hands of a pill. This is a very hard thing to deal with. But weve done it before and "WE

Hi, Just wondering how most peoples panic starts? Mine usually starts with me getting really spaced out, I get really "out of it" and this scares me, I feel like I will almost fade out....this sends me into panic. Its like my head goes all fuzzy inside? I'll be watching TV or something and then suddenly feel like I'm a zombie or something.... I wonder if there is a common symptom?
