awake at night, sleeping through out the day. Anyone else?

Hey Mara, yes, I have that feeling about memory. Actually I felt like that most of the time while studying anatomy. It was horrible. What I'm not sure about is weather it's the momory or concentration, more likely the second one, since I've done the tests very good (ie if my memory were bad I couldnt have done the tests so good, especially the anatomy tests, since there's soo much to memorize). Therefore I think that it just "seems" to us that it's the memory, were just afraid that we aren't ready enough for the exams. I'm glad to hear you have a support from your friends. I haven't been brave enough to tell mine about my GAD and PD cause I've wondered what their reaction to that would be (weather they'd understand or not). Being a self-learner is a great thing, though I can't use it that much since almost all of my classes are obligatory. I can completaly understand your struggle. Keep on struggling! Take care

Endless~ I have had the panic attacks since early 2000. I went through a 18 month period symptom free and then they started up again last July. I too am a student and in dealing with the pressures of both school and the attacks I have done the day/night "flip". Do you find that with the anxiety that your memory is not as great as it used to be? I have taken myself off medications (Ativan) due to memory impairment problems but suspect that the actual anxiety is the main culprit. It's acutally pretty amazing that I get good marks (probably due to the perfectionist in me that more than likey triggers the anxiety to begin with). I can sympathize about avoiding classes and lack of social life due to my noctural preferences. I am very fortunate to have friends that are really accepting and supportive and go out of their way to spend time with me on my schedule. School is tough to do when one has this lovely little disorder, and am lucky to be a self-learner so lack of class time does not impact me as much as it would some. But sometimes it is just such a struggle...thanks for posting your situation it is comforting that there are others out there going through the same thing. M

Rhonnie and Sammi, thanx for your replies. I think there might be two reasons for our sleeping habits, weather we slept/sleep a lot (like you rhonnie, I sleep a lot too, 10 hours a day is about an average for me) or we tend to switch the days for nights. The long sleep might be cause we're just simply mentaly exhausted (I feel so at least), and the switching thing...just simply liking night more than day cause we don't have to face all our "problems", work, school and other stuff we have to deal with at days. Anyway, there's this girl I know that had some psychological problems. She just couldn't trust anyone or was agraid to trust ppl, so her therapist told her that one day (tuesday lets say) from 6-8 pm she'll have to trust anything that anyone said. She went home after having a meeting with her therapist, and guess what happened...When that time(when she had to trust everything) came, she just fall asleep, not intentionally though. She remembered her "homework" only after she got up. And when she told her therapist about it, he said he thought that that would happen. It's a funny thing our head :p Take care

I tend to have a hard time sleeping at night and wanting to sleep all day. Of course i cant sleep all day because i have to work, but when i'm off i definately want to sleep then. I usually feel better and have less anxiety late at night. I guess thats why i stay awake. Wow, if i were in med school i would probably really think i was going to die all the time. I cant even watch the health channels on tv because i find myself thinking i have new symptoms lol. Well, good luck to you. Samantha

hi endless Rhonnie again! I also got through my last bout of anxiety/depression on my own six years ago. This time was so different though the attacks were more severe and the mental stuff in my head was also very strong(thoughts, songs etc) I never had this before. I'm also getting help this time through meds and therapy. When all this started for me again, all I did was sleep!! Maybe at night you can try a hot cup of tea, a bath or shower and relaxation tapes.

I've had my first panick attack about 2 1/2 years ago. First 9-10 months I din't look for any help and tried to deal it all by myself. It was very hard time for me...going to clases and having horrible panic attacks, avoiding classes in every way I could think of etc... Now when I look at that time I'm wondering how I made it through. I even managed to pass anatomy (I'm studying medicine) with very good grades (best I had since I'm at med school). Anyway, after I realized I couldn't deal it all by myself I looked for help. I knew it was all in my head, so I never checked my physical health and went straight to a psychiatrist. By that time I was deep into depression, started therapy, and taking xanax and seroxat. Around that time I started switching days for nights, ie sleeping all day, and being awake all night. I guess it was just easier for me, since it was a sort of get away from everything, just simply enjoying nights when everything is calm. It had a great bad impact on my social life, and it lasted till about nowdays. Now I'm trying to get back to "normal", making myself to get up in the mornings and to deal with the mess and the rush of the days. I guess I just wanted to vent a lil outhere. Thanx for listeing (reading :p ) and for any replies. Has anyone else had this thing happening and how did you deal with it? *kisses* endless
