I guess I just will have to face one of my fears no matter what. I have done it before. What does your anxiety revolve around?

You want to know what to worry about? Nothing. Just live your life as best you can. Right easier said than done I know. But, Hey none of us on here asked for life, the roller coaster that we experience with it, or PD. Keep fighting the good fight and you will reap the benefits.

None of us can predict the future (well some people think they can!). We can consider scenarios, based on rationale and logic and determine the likelihood of them occurring. Most of our fears and anxious thoughts are not based on rationale and logic; they make us think of scenarios which are most unlikely to occur. The trick is to think realistically, prepare for events that are likely to occur, and to give yourself a break, because you cannot predict or perfectly deal with every situation, but you can deal with any situation if you put your mind to it. A lot of the time its better to prepare for the important stuff, relax and forget about the rest, and deal with it as it occurs. Easier said than done I know, but thats got to be the goal.

Hey Runner, Anticipitory anxiety is killer. I deal with it a lot. Couldn't tell you why. My guess would be "stinking thinking" my advice to you is to get "The Feeling Good Handbook" by Dr. Burns, as it teaches you about the 10 forms of distorted thinking and how to talk back, and change them. Anyone that has anticipitory anxiety or most anxiety for that matter is due to a negative form of thinking refered to as "Fortune Telling." A good example is of this form of thinking is "What if I have an anxiety attack. Everyone will freak out and I will lose their respect." Clearly you have absolutely no way of knowing or predicting that anxiety attack will come about. Also you have know way of know what other people will think of you. As for feeling better at night, the best guest is that your mind and body are tired once you the night comes. Therefore, you don't have as many physical symptoms. Hope this helped. PEACE :)

anticipatory anxiety is awful because its typically dreading a future event and envisaging bad scenarios etc. The thing is though, you have been teaching so long, I bet once you get in the classroom and get teaching the anxiety diminishes. You might feel stressed at the time due to various things going on but its a different kind of feeling normally. I dont know what the kids in your class are like, but it might be an option to sit down with them and talk to them briefly about what you have just been through - not too much detail of course. Normally when people, even kids understand a situation they are more likely to show compassion and less likely to play up. Of course I am not a teacher so I dont want to give you bad advice. I think it must take remarkable courage to control a classroom full of kids, many of whom may have come from backgrounds with broken families, or no discipline whatsover at home. Dont forget about your combined relaxation techniques, and isometric relaxation. If you havent used these before let me know and ill try and explain them to you. They can be really effective as they give you ways of lowering your anxiety even in a situation in front of other people without it being noticed. Runner our thoughts are with you.
