morning panic

I agree with Pam. There is a definite hormonal link. I don't even have a period anymore, but when I did, before I separated from my husband, I used to get seriously depressed when I had my period. Very anti-social and wanting to just be by myself. The morning mind chatter I get is just not distressing to me. Infact, it helps me on my drive to work...a distraction. I think I've always had it, but when I first experienced my panic attack, I was so focussed on the panic, that some of the mind chatter left. Now it's back..so oddly enough, I feel more normal than ever. Does that make sense? :confuse:

sammi, panic and anxiety is definately worse during your period. My doctor said it happens because right before you start your period your serotonin level drops way down. It begins to gradually increase throughout the month, but my periods are so totally irregular that I never know when I'm going to have one, so I'm always thinking am I just crazy or am I going to have my period. Taking zoloft has helped me alot but even that can't stop the chemicals in our brains from fluctuating due to hormonal changes.

I can definately relate to the morning panic. If I wake up feeling fine, as soon as I realize that i'm not panicking, I soon begin to. I start thinking about when and why i'll panic next. Usally, after I suffer through the 21 mile drive to work, I get my thoughts off of the panic and anxiety and into whatever is going on there. As long as I keep my mind occupied, I seem to do better. The "second wind" as mentioned above does kick in at night for me also. However, some days it's an all day thing. I cant seem to relax at all. I get the songs stuck in my head too. That makes me want to scream sometimes! I was just wondering, do any of you ladies have more panic attacks than usual when you are on your period? They seem to be more frequent, and last longer for me during that time of the month.(and a few days before and after) If anyone else has noticed this please let me know. Thanks to all of you for posting on this site. It reminds me that i'm not alone here! lol Everyone hang in there, the best of luck to all of you. :)

rhon, that's always been the way I think too. I am always worrying that I am going to totally go crazy, even though I know I can't because I already would be if it was going to happen. I'm 34 and have had anxiety and panic as long as I can remember. I guess the thing with me was that it went away for quite awhile and then it came back and I got through it. I'm so much better now, but I'm always waiting for it to hit me again. So I analyze everything I think and feel to the point of total lunacy. I hope with time I'll be able to forget about it and it will just be a distant memory and not something I think about on a daily basis.

Hi pam and kit thanks for responding it makes me feel better that you guys have the same thing I do. My problem is that I'm totally negative about it and think that I have something other than anxiety!!

I guess if I had disturbing or morbid thoughts, it'd worry me more, but I don't. Pretty harmless, I think, don't you? Hey, I post daily at an ethicsdissusion board..about every topic, imagineable...and frequently I think about what others have posted and how I am going to respond..it's almost like writing, thinking, is therapeutic...I mean is thinking about odd things bad? What if my mind was always blank? I think I'd worry more about that... ;)

thanks kitcat! I need to just accept it like you do and let my mind do what it wants and not worry about it so much. That's my problem I think everything my mind does is potentially abnormal and then I worry about it to the point of panic. And I wonder why I have GAD, DUH!

I do that too, Pam... Thing is though....I don't think my mind is so busy that it's looking for things to freak out about.. I just think my mind is so busy period! Maybe an overactive mind, has a need to do this...just to keep it busy and stimulated? For me, though, it doesn't cause me worry, I just accept that my mind does that kind of thing. Hearing others voice it, makes me think it's not all that uncommon... :)

rhonddaro, I've had the song thing too! I've had a song stuck in my head for week, it really does make you feel like your going crazy and the more you try to stop singing it the worse it gets. I've also done this weird thing of repeating everything that I say or someone else says in my head. It's like my mind is so busy it just searches for things to do to make me freak out. Has anyone else noticed this?

Do any of you have stomach problems in the morning? Like a nauseous, stomach virus type feeling? I ask because I find that if I didn't eat properly the night before - like my stomach is empty, or I ate dairy products, I feel sick and anxious in the morning. So I try to eat better, and see if I feel better. My attacks seem to have alot to do with my tummy - acid and nausea.
