Good to hear from everybody. It certainly seems like there are a lot of options out there. I'll try not to lose hope yet! Keep the faith all.

thanks for the info!! Believe me, I know this would be a LAST resort. In my mind, I feel this is the equivalent to chemo. I was just wondering if anyone had such DRAMATIC improvement that maybe it would be worth it, but i think i'll stick to what i'm on since it seems to be working for me. lets all hang in there~~~hopeful224

I also take 10mg's lexapro & klonopin as needed 2x/day usually. BUT, I was still not feeling anxiety free sooooo my dr added 25mg's tofranil & I feel SOOOO much BETTER!!!!!! I've been on the tofranil for about a week now & I can see such an improvement---------for someone so young, you should not have tosuffer like you are! Talk w/your dr & maybe a med combo is what you need too. I hope you can find relief soon. Take care~~~~Hopeful224

Been there done that. Nardil was just okay. Nothing to write home about (since you're probably home most of the time anyway...) I did have EXCELLENT results from Marplan. What happened was Marplan was working for a few years and then I had a full blown attack on the Verrazano bridge! this was the beginning of the end for me feeling panic free. I kept taking Marplan and they discontinued them. My doc started me on Nardil which didn't bring me back to the panic free life I was enjoying. I am starting 20 MG of Lexapro tonight which prompted me to join this group. I hope it helps me in my fight against Agoraphobia and panic.

In my opinion only, I would resort to a MAOI as a last resort. I understand it helps the best with panic attacks, but at an extreme cost of dietary restrictions, that if you eat aged cheese, ie blue cheese, etc., with a host of numerous other foods, your blood pressure can skyrocket to the point of being hospitalized. I have heard it causes urinary incontingency as well. Also if you should ever need surgery, you have to be off the medication, you cannot mix any cold medicines, and host of other over the counter medicines with it. I was at a point I asked my psychiatrist for the MAOI and he flat said NO. I did have a friend on it, she said she did feel it was the best, but worried so consistently every time they went to eat, that she freaked about assurance that none of the dietary restrictions were in the food. She said she worried so much over the potential adverse reactions with foods, etc. she gave it up.

I can't say I've heard of Nardil, but I can tell you this. I've had GAD and panic attacks (I panic and vommit, then get afraid to eat) for basically all of my life. I'm 21 now, and I first tried counselling and meds last May. I'm on 10 mg Lexapro and take Adavan (Atavin) as needed. Still, I am having a setback right now after 8 great months, so I am bummed out about that. I'm going to check with my therapist and doctor to see if there's something new I need to try. Maybe we can put our heads together and compare notes. Hang in there, you aren't alone. Keep me posted! :)
