Can't Fall To Sleep

for 20 år siden 0 7 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I hate this! I just tried taking a nap and I just can't fall asleep without feeling panicky! My psych put me on Lexapro and I will take it, but meantime I feel like I am losing it! Even as I sit here I am FULL of anxiety and tension. I am trying to wean off ativan and so I don't want to take it and it makes me feel so groggy! I know I just need to keep busy until bedtime but I am really at my wits end. Do any of you just feel like you will end up in a mental hospital? That is what I feel like! I have a freind that took Klonapin during the day too and it helped her. I don't know why he only has me on it at night.... I need some relief froom this and I need it son 'cos I am losing it! My legs are just shaking right now and I have no idea why. I am so fed up with this. I KNOW it is in my head 'cos last night I h=git so tired that I finally went up to bed and fell asleep with NO MEDS for about 5 hours!!! This is just awful!

Bella, klonopin will make you feel a little funny when you first start taking it, but once your body gets used to the medication all it will do is relax you a little and stop your mind from constantly going around and around in circles with worry and anxiety. I know the specialist said not to alter your dosage, and I'm not trying to tell you to do it, but I do take only half of my pill at night before bedtime because the whole one knocks me out. Also, I am on zoloft and am having no side effects at all it has helped me so much. I feel normal again. I still worry and I'm kind of an anxious person by nature because I'm highly sensitive , but it's nothing I can't handle. I have taken a beta-blocker in the past for my irregular heartbeat. I was on tenormin for a couple of years and it worked really well for me. The only side effect I had was I gained about 10 pounds. I was able to quit taking it though because the zoloft seems to control the physical symtoms I have with my anxiety. IBS, irregular heartbeats and body aches. It may take a few weeks but make sure you do what the doctor said and take your medications and you will be feeling much better.

Dear bella, It is important to let your doctor know about the side effects of the medication you are taking. I wouldn't recommend changing the dose until you have talked to your doctor. Susanne

I am taking Klonapin 1-2 mg. It makes my head feel funny. Is that normal when you first start taking it? Is this drug harmful? I thought about just trying a half a tablet tonight. I tried to nap earlier but woke up in a panic again. I feel like I am going crazy. I am also on an antidepressant. Do you take one? I am trying to wean off of Ativan which I was taking before the Klonapin. And I take a beta blocker for high heart rate. SO many druge I worry that I am taking too many. My life basically is all about worrying. The strange thing is last night I fell aslep on the couch for an hour anda half and was JUST FINE..which really ticks me off that I can't just go to sleep normally.....

Bella the klonopin should work for you I take one most nights before bed to help me relax. I also do the jumping awake with my heart racing when I'm under alot of stress and my anxiety and panic are getting bad. It's just that your body is so wound up from all of the anxiety that you can't relax and go/stay asleep. When our nervous systems get so out of whack you almost have to take something to bring it back down to a normal level. Let me know if the klonopin works.

I am going through this right now and ready tolose my mind. When i try to sleep, as soon as I drift off I am jolted awake with a rapid heart beat and feeling panicky. I am seeing a psychiatrist today for this. My PCP has tried me on several meds and gave me Klonapin yesterday to help me sleep. I started Effexor XR but felt so sick on it that I tought I would notbe able to continue. I am waiting to see what the psych says. I am very desperate and really tired and sad. Sound familiar?

Hi everyone :) Sleep paralysis happens to everyone every time we fall asleep. When we sleep our brain demobilises our whole body. The only parts that move are our eyes (flicker during REM, this is normal), heart, and lungs. Everything else is paralysed. Sounds kooky I know but it’s a good thing! If paralysis didn’t occur we would be acting out our dreams and getting our bodies into all sorts of strife. Waking up still paralysed is really scary! But physically it won’t harm us. Often people wake up feeling what feels like a weight on their chest. I think this is because the chest is still moving. So we notice and feel it, subconsciously, first. Sleep walking is when paralysis doesn’t occur. I sleep walk from time to time and it’s usually during a stressful time. Dreams only last for a few minutes each. So if you sleep walk you won’t get the chance to travel any place far. I’ve had trouble sleeping with panic too. Being afraid to sleep is awful. A routine helped me overcome this. There’s a lot to be said for our body clocks, bless them. Also use your bed for resting purposes only. Eating, reading, watching TV in bed may be fun but our body/mind learns that this piece of furniture is for activity. Which isn’t what you want when you’re trying to sleep. I used to read and watch TV in bed a lot too. If you’re in a share house situation and don’t want to disrupt the household during the night, a good idea would be to get yourself a bean bag or something for those sleepless nights. Just so you’re not using your bed for any activity except rest. Take care all :)

CythinaO - That's a really common problem on this site, not being able to fall asleep and afraid you will die if you do! And about the being asleep and not being able to move when you wake up, I used to have that years ago. To me it almost felt like I couldn't get back into my body when I awoke. I seemed to be awake, but couldn't move at all, like I was paralyzed. I used to have dreams where I would float above my body and could look down on it and hover around the cieling. It seemed like the paralisis took place more often at the end of those kind of dreams. Wierd. I've talked to other people who have had this happen, so I guess it's not that rare. It hasn't happened to me in years now.

I also have a hard time falling asleep when I am having problems with my Panic attacks. Since I started taking medication again(Zoloft) I've been better, but I still pop a Xanax and hour before bed time. I was fine for four years medication free and them, BOOM! It came out of nowhere and it hit me so hard I felt like I was going to pass out. Right when I lay down my heart starts racing automatically and then that triggers slight anxiety and then I can't fall asleep. It sucks! I'm usually scared that my heart is going to stop beating or I will stop breathing in my sleep.

Lourdes and Melanie, Yesssssssssss. OMG I have experienced that on several occasions, except it wasnt a dream like state. It was more like I was in a coma, mentally aware, but unable to make my body move, talk, nothing, finally when my body woke up, I was so petrified of even falling asleep again. The only explanation my doctor could give me was it was very much like interns going through sleep deprevation, he commented their bodies react this way also. Its horrible to be screaming in your mind and nobody can hear you.
