Heightened awareness - cause or effect????

Thanks for your response, sanju, I just started noticing the heightened awareness thing a couple weeks ago when I started this program. Apparently it had been part of the problem for years, but I never really noticed it before. Now that I know it's a factor in my panic attacks, I'm writing down exactly what I'm feeling while it's happening. It helps me to do it while in the middle of it because, for one, it gets my mind on something else, and two, it helps me to recognize the syptoms for what they are. And you are so right about it being temporary, when I have an episode I remind myself that it never lasts, and it will be over soon. And of course, it always is shortlived. Lately though, I seem to have more attacks, (although they are much less severe) and I wonder if it's because I am paying more attention to the symptoms.

hi hopefull..i now exactly what you mean..i actually feel i,m living inside my body when ever i,m about to have an attack..at other times i myself dont pay that much attention to my symptoms...i do think its the stress levels and state of mind that causes me to go inside my body and feel each symptom in a magnified way..and that does contribute to my panic attacks...but i must tell you that since i,ve become aware of this..i control my fear when i feel those strong...body symptoms..i know its only temporary ..it really helps...

I've noticed in several posts that people mention a "heightened awareness", noticing every little bodily function and emotion. I do this too. At times every little smell, noise, or sound seems very exaggerated and annoying. Other times I notice each tiny insignificant thing my body does, things a normal person wouldn't even notice. Sometimes it's each tiny little thought or feeling. They are all way out of proportion. Since I have been paying more attention to figuring out triggers and taking notice of my thoughts, I've noticed that this happens quite alot. My question is that - is the heightened awareness causing the panic and anxiety, or the panic causing the heightened awareness? Maybe it could be both ways, as I know everything feeds off each other and cycles around. Anyone have any ideas on this?
