I started coughing 2 weeks before the quit, as I tried to cut back on the number of cigarettes smoked. Still coughing - and expect to - for the next couple of weeks.
Mornings are worse for me, but I do cough throughout the day. Some of it relates to tension & craves for a smoke - I'm starting to see where the coughing is a reaction to situations where I'd normally smoke.

just keep this in mind. never take another puff! some ppl including me cough less even none when i smoked. but 3 days after completely stop it i got a lot of cough
40 days after stop smoking.
Still producing that crud especially in the morning shower
although it is getting less and less
BTW it is not actually a cough - just a feel that there are some mucous in ur throat
my chest hurt and my nose got stuffed up. but the x-ray show everything was fine
I have been coughing up brown and sometimes bright green, very thick mucus. It has slowed down a little. I just look at it as my body healing itself and ridding the toxins. I also had sore throat and neck, felt like the flu.
Doing soooo much better almost symtom free the Doc has me on meds to calm my anxiety. But you know your body and if you feel something is wrong always check with your Doc. But know that your body is going through some changes and shock.
Hang in there and good for you on your quit!!!!

This is one thing I am slightly jealous of!!! I have not coughed one single 'brown crud' up.... I know it probably sounds rather odd, to wish this upon myself - but I'm jealous that my body is not getting rid of the 'stuff/crud' whatever it is you lucky people are having!!!!
Waiting patiently for my Cilia to wake up!

Hi Quitter! The majority of mine is in the morning. There is small amnts of it but not as bad during the day.
Yeah, that is the feeling in my throat. My chest hurts but is more of the breastbone area (sternum) but my pain might be caused by the sliding hiatal hernia & gerd. I wont know until I see the GI doc in ref to my biopsy results. My chest xrays came out normal as well as the sat rates too.
I did wake up this morning w/ tender lungs---like I had been out partying and smoking all night long. I am just thankful the muscus has shown no signs of infection or 'odd' discoloration. It's been clear (minus the brown crud).

Hi Deli!! I was reading somewhere on here where some of the people do not cough up the brown crud while I have read where some have coughed up the crud for 6 mons or more.
This time there is a lot of crud!! Maybe my lungs have picked up where I was on my 3rd quit back in June - Aug. Does this sound plausiable?

This quit has been different--again.
This time, I have noticed the brown crud is mostly in the morning as soon as I get up but thru out the day, I will cough up small amnts.
Does this happen to you too?

Luckily for me so far no crud. This morning when I woke up was one of the best feelings I have had. Breathing seemed so clean and easy. When I walked outside, I could actually smell the rain. Pretty awesome for only being in the middle of the first week.

Duckie,
Your body is definitely in the process of healing itself. Drink lots of water and have some tea to soothe your throat if it becomes sore :)
Keep Strong,
Josie
