Oh, Bonny... I know what you mean and what you are feeling. Sometimes it's astounding what comes out of other people's mouths, and how insensitive they can be, don't you agree?

Seriously, you ARE doing the right thing. You already have a serious health problem that is not made better by smoking. You're trying to address that by quitting. Once smoke-free, no doubt you'll be able to be exercise more which will help you address your weight concerns.
Once smoke-free and svelte, you'll be free to address booting your husband to the curb. :eg:
I know it's hard, but just take one thing at a time, one day at a time, Bonny, with lots of deep breaths and visits to this site in between.
And, if you can, try and talk to your hubby about what you are trying to do and why comments like the one he made isn't helpful to getting what either of you would like.
