Thank you Krissie for the post. You are a dear and have been such a great help. And thank you everyone for the best wishes, it means so very much to newbies like myself. Am doing my quit via cold turkey and my reward for 2 weeks was both planned & unexpected. I live in the desert & by chance, yesterday afternoon & evening was something like 15 degrees cooler than we've had in months. So my husband & I were able to get outside & do a lot of walking. It was so great to be able to enjoy the sunshine & landscape (which has turned very green since the summer monsoons, rather than the usual brown!). We stopped & picked up a couple lbs of shrimp & made a scrumptious dish of shrimp alfredo for my 2 wk treat. Mega fattening but I so enjoyed it! Been doing 3-1/2 miles on a treadmill every other day since I quit, so I figure if I gain any weight I'll deal with it later. Getting through the early weeks of quit are enough to focus on for me at this time. I am now beginning to notice I don't think of 'not being able to smoke' but more along the lines of 'look at this - I don't have to smoke.' I guess the positive self-talk is starting to kick in, I find myself delighted when I notice stretches of time when I do not even think of smoking. Well, onto 'Blah Week'. It will prove interesting as I will be out of town for 4 days for a family reunion. One where there will be lots of smoking. Am taking all my tools along, even the quit journal that I hate writing in (but which I have a hunch helps me more than I'll admit ) and also the infamous straws. For some reason I have this idea that I shouldn't be playing with straws or toothpicks in lieu of hand-to-mouth habit but it sure does help during the tough waves of craving. Guess I should count my blessings to be sucking in air & not smoke - will quit sweating small stuff at this point I suppose. Am so determined to quit this nicotine habit and have to thank the SSC support group as I attribute your help to my success so far. And Sparky, you hang in there. I need you around - smoke-free! :p Be back at the end of the week. N.O.P.E.
