I am about to go on holiday. Which was my reward for quitting smoking 74 days ago (I cant believe I made it). This site has given me a lot. This is what i have learnt. I hope that it helps someone. 1. There is NO 'magic' day when you 'feel better' and everything is ok again. A lot of people ask, when will this get better? Basically the first few days is nicotine withdrawal. After that, its in the mind. It becomes a mental addiction (although it may well feel like a physical addiction). 2. YOU and only you are in control of the thoughts that you allow into your mind. It is as hard as YOU make it. Have you ever had a relationship breakdown, one where you feel like you have been in a car crash? The longer you were in that relationship, the longer it took to get over and to heal. The longest relationship I have had is nearly 8 years. It took me pretty much 3 years to get over that one (fully get over). When I was smoking - my cigarettes were my best friend - They were with me through good and bad. They were with me for 22.5 years. I smoked up to 2 packs a day (and have smoked more), OF COURSE it was hard for me to let go. I was used to the cigarettes being around. I wasnt going to get over it in a week (I thought i would). When I realised that I could combat it. I treated myself like you would a best friend. I took long baths, I treated myself, rewarded myself regularly. Most importantly, i wrote a goodbye letter to my cigarettes. It helped most definately (its on this site somewhere). When I said goodbye - mentally it meant that i was ready to move on. You know when you come out of a relationship, then you think about the person and wonder why ages later you havent met someone else, or moved on. Its because you didnt want to! Thats why. So allow yourself to heal. SAY GOODBYE. let it go. Its scary yeah (we get scared when we let relationships go - what will happen we ask)... but we survive. The new cant come in, if you dont let it in. 3. POST POST POST. When you are in those first few days - weeks, dont smoke, post. It will give you something to do with your hands. By the time you have written it, and posted, you wont feel like smoking again. 4. If you DO still feel like smoking. Say not right now, maybe tomorrow (or preferably later). When y
