this took a while for me to get too. First of all, if you post anything to a thread, it brings it up to todays active discussions. So if you find something in the past that you liked, you just post something to it and it brings the subject back up for everyone to see.
When I open a thread, I always look at the first post date so I can tell if it is a bumped thread, or current. That way I'm not responding to someones issues last year as if they were today. but the bumped threads are almost always valuable.
