Thank you for replying Mr. Ed ... you are a so kind. But I'm crying. I just hate this Mr. Ed! I really hate this. When, when, WHEN will my metabolism figure out what it is going to do? I know, I know ... I smoked for a long time and it is not all going to be ok overnight. You know ... I can deal with it taking some time. But this is bull. It really is. I feel like a fekkin' balloon. I know I am not ... but that is what I feel like. My small frame can not handle this. I do not feel comfortable in my skin with this extra weight on me. I can't stop crying. Today is suppose to be a happy day ... 10 weeks quit today. I do not feel very d@mn happy at the moment. I'm sad, I'm pissed off, I'm ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I can't believe that smoking sped my metabolism sooooooooo much that this crap is happening to me now. I am exercising my arse off! I eat inbetween 800 and 1200 calories a day. Basically I'm starving myself it seems like!!!!!! I am 35 pds heavier than what I am comfortable with. It is effecting my sex life. I do not want to have sex. The thought of my fat body flopping around grosses me out. It is making me not want to go out of the house! I feel disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need clothes but I cry everytime I go to try something on to buy it. I can't stand looking at myself in the mirror! My friend invited me over to swim today and I do not want to go because I don't want anyone to look at me! I DON'T WANT TO LOOK AT ME!!! My skin is breaking out everywhere ... I've gone from ugly with a smoke hanging out of my mouth to ugly fatso person. And I don't want to hear it is what is on the inside that counts. I know that. I don't feel gross on the inside ... I feel gross on the outside. This is making me mad about my Quit. If I was not exercising and dieting my butt off that would be one thing. But I am! I am trying very very very hard!!!!!! Hi Breaking Free - I hear you....I know exactly how you feel...I was a bit luckier because I only started to gain after about 5 months (who cares about the reasons, it really does not matter now). I still am more than I have ever been. I could not believe how I felt, thinking I was sooooo FAT..I thought every thought that you thought...What I found surprising was that I never would have classed myself as one that was "into how I looked" but I learned that I obviously put too much into HOW I looked because it really bothered me tht I had gained weight.I have been working on that aspect of my character right now and at the same time of course doing what I can...I am glad that you are out of the 'mud'...I have my days too....and still do..but I am confident that I will eventually get back to where I want to be, where I can feel good. IN the meantime...I am trying to be comfortable where I am at right now..knowing tht it will change..Keep up the quit..I think that our concern about the weight gain can really play havoc with the quit.. Breaking Free... Breathe sweetie. I gained a ton of weight in the beginning too. I went to the doctor for a check up and told him I had quit smoking. The only thing he said to me was that I needed to lose weight right away. A minimum of 15 lbs. I know how you feel. Let me tell you that your motabolism will balance out over a period of time and the weight will begin to go away. You will get back to your prequit weight. Your body is adjusting. Exercise and watch what you eat. Rusty can give you some really good tips. She is our diet guru :) And Wendy too. She has lost a lot of weight since she quit. Hopefully they will be along soon to help you. I hope this helps. Hi, BF. Not much I can say that hasn't been said. I gained weight, about 25 pounds, during the first six months regardless of working out 3 - 4 days a week (which I'd never done before). Then around Thanksgiving (!) it began coming off and now I'm 1 - 2 pounds over my pre-quit weight and not exercising nearly as hard. This is an adjustment most of us have to go through. From what I've seen here, most gain the first 6 months and lose it the last 6. That's very generalized, but it is the pattern I've seen. I think a bigger question is why is it bothering you so much? You know what you're doing is for your greater good, and I'm sure you've seen that the weight gain is temporary if you want it to be. So why so down on yourself? Why so down in general? You're approaching the 80 - 100 day time frame. That tends to be a danger time. Lots of quits are lost during then. Please step carefully over the next few weeks. Rewards, rewards, rewards. Do them, Dani. Anything at all that will make you forget your problems for a moment. Any distraction. Anything that will make you smile. How about throwing a pie at someone? BF, I know how you feel. I know exactly how you feel. Believe it or don't, you may not be getting enough calories. Wierd, huh? When you aren't getting enough, your body does this starvation mode thing and wants to hang onto every single calorie. I can't tell you how many calories are right for you. I do suggest a couple of things: Talk to your doctor or even better a nutritionist. Do some web searching -- for really great support. Look at the quality of what you are eating as well as the quantity. Change out your exercise routine...your body may be completely used to it and not feeling a challenge anymore. Add more time, more intensity, or something completely different a day or two a week. Don't forget strength training a couple of days a week, too. One more thing. Self-hate is not a good thing. Neither is comparing ourselves to others. For some reason, we women are incredibly sensitive in how we perceive that we look. We all need to practice a modicum of self-love and self-acceptance. The same thing that helped us keep our quits -- love and respect for our bodies and acceptance of ourselves -- will help us take care of ourselves. Talk to you soon!
