I don't know about you Pink, but when it comes to quitting, I am breaking lots of rules. Right now carrot sticks don't do it for me, and aspertame (spelling?) makes me nauseous so I'm afraid that I go through about 4 or 5 sour candies (full of sugar) every night. Boy - my next dental bill is going to be a killer! On the plus side, I am going to the gym WAY more. I actually don't know if I have gained weight because I don't really want to check. Healthy eating is important to me....but right now if I need to put on afew pounds to succeed so be it. A couple of years, I started trying to take smoking out of my work day and I ate about 3 tootsie pops a day. (and that was a good day) My mouth was full of cankers but it worked. I don't eat the tootsie pops anymore....so I figure the sour candies will go eventually too. BTW, I took smoking out of my work day but I just packed more into the evening (so it wasn't quite the success I hoped it would be) Anyway......be soooooooooo proud of your 4 weeks quit! That is awesome. If you keep smoking, your face will wrinkle up and your teeth will fall out and you will hack all the time and carry an oxygen tank. You look beautiful smoke free! You might have put on some weight, but I bet your eyes are clearer, your hair smells nicer, looking shinier, your skin glowing, your complexion rosier. Bet you look much more gorgeous! Just my opinion! I still have a sweet tooth...and I'm with Windy - carrot sticks and melon just dont do the trick. However, I do really enjoy rocky road granola bars. The peanut free ones have half the fat of regular ones and taste the same. Also, I really believe protein in the morning is the ticket to keeping your metabolism in gear. I know it may sound strange but a can of tuna or turkey sandwich for breakfast, instead of carb loaded cereals will make a difference. Pinktexas, Remember that your weight gain is temporary. You may be craving sweets because smoking raises blood sugar so quitting would make it drop a little. Try to make smarter choices, keep up with your exercise regiment and you'll see in time the weight will come off. Until then, reward yourself for staying smoke free. Pink, Our metabolism slows down when we quit smoking and most of us increase what we eat to fight off the cravings. I went to the doctor about 2 months into my quit and had gained 15 lbs. He focused on my weight gain, not the fact that I had quit smoking and I was devistated. As a matter of fact, I cried a lot! try to make smart choices in your food. Portion control works the best for me. However, know that in a few months your metabolism will return and I found I lost the weight I had gained. Take some deep breaths and I wouldn't focus on the weight at this stage of your quit. Quitting smoking is much more important. You can work on the weight gain later. That is just me opinion. Thanks for all the replys....glad to know I am not alone and this is normal. I will try the hardy breakfast and just keep going to the guy. I noticed that yesterday I made better food choice, not perfect but better after I decided to post about my frusteration. I think maybe when we don't talk about it we think "No one will know", and after I posted maybe I was scared someone would ask how I was doing...so I had to do a little better. Silly, yes I know but like we have said all along...this is a mental battle and we must do whatever it takes to win. Okay, okay I know this maybe a pity party post...but I just need to get these thoughts out and I knew this was the best place to come to do that. I am so proud of myself for having 28 smoke free days behind me...one month here I come. However I thought the quit was going to be the hardest thing that I had to endure but now it seems that my demon has become my food choices. I figure that I will just not buy anything else that is bad. I have gained weight...I am working out more than ususal and I am just feeling frusterated. Please give me some advise and words of wisdom...I just want to cry. Well I do know that I feel better, and if gaining a few pounds is what has to happen for me to take back my life then that is what I will do. The funny thing has been I crave sweets since my quit, I don't really eat sweets...maybe this to will pass. I am just going pray that God will also take this temptation away from me.
