I have had enough!!!

I cant stand it anymore. I have had enough. I am fat and uncomfortable and desperately miserable. In May last year I found out I was expecting my 2nd child and weighed 175lbs, not a bad weight for me as I am tall, was a bit on the heavy side but happy and confident. As my pregnancy progressed I gained steadily weighing 213lbs full term. 2 weeks after giving birth I had lost most of it weighing in at 187lbs. I was pretty impressed with that and looked forward to loosing the last 10lbs and getting back to normal. Well....5 months later I am now 210lbs, smoke free, but almost back to my full term pregnancy weight....without the baby. Aaarrrggghhhh!!!!! I feel awful. I am well into my quit now and there are no more excuses. I have to do something. I wont even get naked in front of my DH as I am so ashamed. I dont know why I am eating so much. I cant stop. Cakes, cookies, fries, toast with lots of butter. It's got to stop. Please send your strength and best wishes this way. If I am strong enough to stop smoking, I am strong enough to stop eating. I empathize with both of you because in Jan I was also overweight. I went on weight watchers and joined the ymca. But you don't have to join a club. See if you can get a hold of excersize tapes. I particularly liked Leslie Sanson Walk away the pounds. It was great at first because they are not too vigerous so you can't do them at first. But they are just right. Anyways, I send you encouragement. I lost all the weight and feel great, it can be done. Oh yeah, I did weight watchers, but I didn't go to meetings, I just went a few times to get the idea, then did it on my own. I still use it to keep it off. Actually, it's really quite simple. More calories out then goes in. Write down everything you eat. Quitting Smoking and Weight Gain How to Minimize Weight Gain When You Quit Smoking Most people who quit smoking worry about gaining weight. It seems to go with the territory. While a small gain is normal, excessive weight gain when you quit smoking can create new health problems and erode your determination to stay off cigarettes. Learn what you can do to keep your weight under control as you go through the process of recovery from nicotine addiction. Why do people gain weight when they quit smoking? Smoking effects a person's metabolism and also burns calories: Smoking burns up to 200 calories a day in a heavy smoker Because smoking burns calories, metabolism is boosted (increased) slightly Nicotine is an appetite suppressant When you quit smoking, a gain of between 5 and 10 pounds during the first few months of cessation is normal. If your eating habits have remained the same as they were when you smoked, you can easily shed this small gain with a brisk, 30 minute walk daily. Why do I want to eat more? Not only does it fill the void left by the cigarette, food can be an emotional comfort, easing the pain of withdrawal. Studies have shown that women are at greater risk than men for returning to smoking as a way to avoid weight gain. Understanding what happens to our bodies when we quit smoking, and what we can do to alleviate discomforts in constructive ways that do not involve weight gain will help you stay on track.

I hear you mummy22. About 7 years ago I was v slim (I'm tall too). I got married to a good cook, lived indulgently, had a baby and stopped smoking. I had a reality check this morning wehen I realised that in the past seven years I've put on 29 kgs!!!!!!! That's like 64 pounds. OMG I feel sick. And none of my clothes fit at all. Like you said I feel fat, uncomfortable and miserable. So: Today I've started a mini detox - fruit and veg only for a few days for a kick start. Since quitting fags I've started walking more (pushing the pram lol) but I only walk about 3 times a week. I'll step that up when I finish the detox. I've given it some thought & some of the approach is the same as quitting fags (journal etc) but we can't stop eating altogether. I'm loving the 'French Women Don't get fat' book at the moment. It talks about little steps rather than diet punishment. Food is to be enjoyed! Yay. And the diet is to be balanced. Good luck from me to you Jo. Jo, I feel your pain, I really do. I have always been overweight. I weighed as much as you do now just about 8 months ago. I started Weight Watchers and it has worked for me. I lost 30 pounds-- I still have a way to go but the difference is amazing. I have been having trouble losing weight since I quit smoking, but I am still on WW. I walk a lot, swim a lot and try to get some activity in my schedule. You can do it too!! Jo, You can do this! Firstly check with your doctor to come up with a plan that will work for you. Don't buy the junk and you won't be tempted to eat it. Start choosing lots of water and low calorie foods. Increase you fruits and veggies and use them as snacks. You need to take this one step at a time and one idea at a time and you will fair well.
