Something that I've found that helps me beat my morning craving back (and if you smoke menthols, this may not work for the same reason it worked for me) is mentholated cough drops. I am a non-mentholated, full flavor kind of smoker. There were a few times when I would be out places and I would run out of smokes, and have to bum one from a kindly stranger. I decided I really was an addict when I smoked a "Virginia Slims Super Slim 120 menthol" that I bummed off of a grandmotherly type lady. I -hate- the taste of mentholated cigarettes, but when you are fiending, beggers can't be choosers. I discovered when I had a sore throat that smoking while sucking on a halls was a lot worse to me than smoking a menthol. (In retrospect, that should have been a hint I was addicted too..)
So, the key to the morning craving for me is a sugar free cough drop. It takes about 5 minutes or so to disolve it, and a bit longer than that for the menthol taste to go away. As a bonus, they help with the smoker's cough I have.
Stay in there, just keep your eyes, mind, and spirit on the goal. Breaking the addiction.
