does everyone gain weight?

I have lost weight since I quitt smoking, not much - 2 1/2 lb, but I am so glad I don't gain weight. I started to walk for about 30-45 min every day from the very first day of my quitt. I didn't have any cravings for candy the first couple of weeks, but the last days my cravings for chocolate is huge! It's almost as bad as for the nicotine cravings the first week. I have to leave my money at home, otherwise I will go to the wending-machine at work and by me Snickers :confuse: My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/22/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 20 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 308 Amount Saved: $90 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 9 Mins: 38 Seconds: 33

Since I quit 10 days ago, I havn't noticed that my appetite has increased, its just that I grab a snack to take my mind off smoking. I would really like to hear that someone has been able to quit and not gain or weight or better yet, lose weight. Before I quit I have lost 40lbs and have 20 to go. I don't want to gain any back!!! So far, I am eating fresh veggies for snacks but sometimes nothing will help the crave for a smoke like chocolate. I feel like I have gained 15lbs...maybe only 10 or 12lbs but I look at it this way...nicotine is so addictive and if I can break my nicotine habit I can do anything I put my mind too including lose weight therefore now that I am feeling better about my quit I am going to go get a membership to curves ASAP!!! I've been about 50lbs over where I want to be since I had a my 2year old. This eat and be merry attitude isn't coming from a little string bean who thinks they need to lose weight either!!! LOL! I stayed the same my first week. I exercised and ate whatever I wanted and then tried to eat better my second week. Since then I have fallen (to my great surprise) into a running routine and I feel awesome! I have lost weight and have a lot more energy. I eat chocolate all the time...and I make sure it is something good too...like cake. I figure if I want chocolate, I am going to have chocolate...I just cut out the unnecessary snacking I usually do before dinner. Veggies are great and all...but you should reward yourself. If you are like me at all...when I deprive myself...I binge and eat way more than if I would have indulged my craving. There is always non-fat chocolate pudding...that's like 100 cals and yummy! Good luck! The week before I quit smoking I went on one of those soup diets and lost 6 lbs (I think, long time ago now) It got me to eating healthy and snacking on veggies. So when I quit I started watching calories and exercising. I bought allot of low fat foods, low sugar candies to eat and REALLY tried NOT to replace my smoking with food. I quit in April so the weather was good, I walked 2 miles in the morn and 2 at night, plus I rode my bike whenever I could. Hubby and I did allot of seadooing since it was so hot last summer and I know that helped (swam allot in the Niagara River) This winter I have worked out with DVD's and I have an exercise bike, plus I walk when the weather allows. It has been a long hard journey but one that I am proud of. I also got a new job, its like a whole new me It can be done (diet and quit) but I am telling you it was HARD, but it is WORTH it!!!! marie, Almost all smokers notice this. You may tend to eat more than you used to. Your body's absorption of food is improved as well, so you will gain more nourishment even if you don't eat more. How long will this last? The first few weeks after quitting. Tips to help: Try low calorie snacks or beverages. If you have a symptom that persists or seems worse than you expected, you should immediately consult a doctor. Its possible that your smoking has been masking symptoms of some illness, and when you stop smoking the symptoms abruptly become noticeable.
