Low-cal Snacks

I just went to grab my Ranch flavored wheat thins and saw my box of CROUTONS in there. CROUTONS!!! The calories are almost non-existant and you can have like 20 of them...20 croutons that is, not boxes (UNLESS THEY'RE ON SALE THEN YOU CAN STOCK UP. LOL!! SNACK ON!! :) MANY BLESSINGS!! EVE :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 61 Amount Saved: $21 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 15 Mins: 28 Seconds: 14

Hey 4! I just remembered (SEE I'M GETTING BETTER LOL) have you tried Chinese rice crackers??? I think they are delish :p and they come in different flavours. There is a Wasabi flavour I absolutely adore and it is spicy so it will keep you drinking the water too. The cal is slim to none on those crackers, hardly any fat or none at all. Nice and crunchy too. If I think of anything else at all I will post it right away. I have never been a 'snacker' so this is tuff for me too. I'm sort of just going with whatever feels right for me. Many Blessings, Eve :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 61 Amount Saved: $21 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 15 Mins: 27 Seconds: 25

I have been thinking about this too, I just really needed to get something besides Wheat Thins! Here is what I did: I listened to what my body was telling me about certain foods... For example, I would think of a food (ie: mixed nuts) and then wait for a 'positive' or 'negative' feeling in me. It was 'positive' so I put it on the list. I made sure to add next to it to get the UNSALTED kind and make sure it was deluxe mixed. Not just one kind of nut. Nuts are high in GOOD protein and good fats. They will not put weight on you if you eat just a handful. They are good and satisfying. Of course, if you have nut allergies you may want to rethink buying nuts! Opt for something small and crunchy like those tiny cheesy Goldfish crackers in place of nuts. I don't know how low-cal they are though, but it's better than Oreo cookies!! Next I felt out "cereal". I got a "positive" from Oatmeal so that went on. Another funny thing I noticed, I am craving Oatmeal Rasin Nut cookies. I put that down too. That was the ONLY sweet treat on the list and it did not even contain any chocolate. Fig newtons are pretty healthy too, and they sell the all natural ones now (I think they are "Newmans Own". (That was surprising, that I have not craved chocolate. I did the 3rd day in, and has a few small easter candies at work. That is where the caving ended.) I put carrot sticks on and celery, though when i got to the store there were no celery stalks left and I wasn't making another trip across town to get just that. So I xperimented with the stuff that was there. I would hold a bag of fresh sugar snap peas (I LOVE THOSE!) and felt for 'positive' or 'negative'. Positive it was so in the cart it went. I did the same for raw brocoli and cauliflower, and sunflower seeds--all positive so in the cart and they all came home with me. I am enjoying the snacks I bought as the raw veggies are giving me LOTS of energy from all the high protein and nutrients, and I have not gained an ounce from anything and my diet is nothing short of sparratic eating. But somehow, just by listening to my body and what it wants and eating the sweet things moderately or more as a 'reward' it is working. Make sure you are aware of what foods have an 'affect' on you and read the package labels before

I absolutely love raw veggies, with dip of course. I was just wondering, besides the fruit and veggies, what kind of low-cal snacks do other people eat? I am in desperate need of new things. New creations. I am soooooooo tired of my veggies and fruit. My body is not responding to these anymore. I force myself to eat them. And then I go binging on any kind of chocolate or candy in sight. Even my lifesavers and Werthers! I dont like the sugar free, so I bought the regular. Now I can polish a big bag off in 1/2 a day. I really need some creative ideas!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! A couple of sites that have good recipes -- sparkpeople(com) and the other one is whfoods but I'm not sure if it's a net or a com. WH stands for world's healthiest foods. For snacks, I eat apples (pink lady, gala and fuji are the best apples) sliced with cheese (laughing cow), Special K snack bars (90 calories), grapes, watermelon, almonds (11 a day), cherries if they're in season, mini bel cheese rounds, string cheese, hard boiled eggs, rosemary and garlic triscuits with hummus, celery with a little peanut butter, 100 calorie snacks (oreo, chips ahoy, etc), etc. Be sure to watch the salt content.
