Lindora has a good program, it helps you with portions, eating small meals throughout the day instead of a couple of large meals, and take a pretty holistic approach to weight loss and maintenance. They have a good book, website, and good protien bars that help with the sweet cravings. Rusty, thank you so much for the invite and the info of the site's. I have been on them for the last hour. It's so great to be able to find recipe's and how to make them, and exercise programs that want to start out slow and not throw me into an arm flapping crazy person that after a week I just give up. I'm so proud of myself with this quit. I have tried before but this time it is just different. At first I was so angry with myself for deciding to quit. I was the poster child for all the symtoms a person goes through when quitting. I wanted the crown of pitty and anger. I got so angry that I quit that my quit HAS became the most important thing to me EVER. Again Rusty thank you for your help. I'm all over the web trying to find anything that will help with diet plans, exercise, etc. There are so many out there, which one works and which one is really logical. I've put on over 30 pounds since these 3 life altering changes came into effect. Only since my quit did I really start worring. I started walking 2 1/2 weeks ago in the morning and in the evening about 3 to 4 miles each day some days more. The problem is I've gained while doing this, and my husband has lost 11 pounds. I had to go out and buy stretch shorts just to be able to have something to wear. My belly has blown up. I look like I'm 7 months pregnant. I have taken all salt out of my diet, we try to eat a lot of salads, and drink a lot of water. I must say with all the walking I'm getting a tight butt and leg muscles. I'll surly be able to keep up with my grandchildren when I get to visit them again this summer. Food does have such a great taste to me now that I don't have the smoke to cover up the taste. Or the desire to not finish eating so I could run out and have my cig instead of eating. I do want to eat a lot more. The sweets are also something I do crave when never before did they mean much to me. Take them or leave them before. Now I make a cake on Tues and Thur it's gone. So I know not to make cakes or keep sweets in the house anymore. I guess I'm looking for a good diet and exercise plan if anyone has one and can share what that is. Lana I hear you...I def believe that quitting smoking has slowed my metabolism, menopause is in full swing and I am getting the stomach,,,exercise, watch what I eat, walk swim and skate and my stomach just gets bigger...this is getting pretty serious.. Hi Lana, you have gotten some pretty good advice, so my advice is to follow it lol. Eating healty and exercise seems to be the key. Congratulations on quitting I bet you feel like a million!!! Hi Lana, please join us on the daily diet watch thread. We try different things and share information and laugh a lot! There are a couple of good tools we've shared - fitday, 3fatchicks, and sparkpeople. They are all dot com sites. Here's my advice: 1. Start eating clean. Get processed food out of your diet as much as possible. Eat vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and quality protein. 2. Stay away from fast food places. 3. Don't drink sodas of any kind. 4. Avoid the Whites - white flour, white sugar, white rice. 5. The scales are not your friends - judge your health by how your clothes fit. (I know! I know!) 6. Add some strength training to your exercise. You can buy light dumbbells at Target or Walmart. Get a book or find a website that shows how to do some basic strengthening exercises. One good site is stumptious.(com) Lana, it's a long process and similar in some ways to quitting smoking. You didn't gain the weight overnight and you won't lose it overnight. It's best to think healthy eating rather than diet. Then it becomes a lifestyle change. Lana, You are definitely on the right track with water and exercise. You may want to check with your doctor about your consumption and food portions. This could be the key to help you with the weight loss. There are many fads and quick fixes out there. You want to stick to something that will keep the weight off and do it slowly. Your doctor and Nutritionist can be of great assistance to you and help you come up with a program that is right for you.
