I also have refractory depression (hard to treat), my psychiatrist and I discussed this at one time. There is alot of negative information out there on ECT. It used to be horrid cause permanent brain damage; however after his recommendation of ECT, I started looking for current research. I think if your doctor recommends it you should do it. I did not, but only because I got some stability with my current medication. I hope someone on here can share the experience with you as I am sure it would put you more at ease than me talking about studies and my doctors opinion.
I'm on the severe scale of Major Depressive Disorder and we're having a hard time finding the right cocktail for me. My current one is Prozac/Wellbutrin (which I just started on). Something my Psychcairitist mentioned in our meeting was the possibility of ECT Treatment if this cocktail or some other cocktail doesn't work for me because it so bad and chronic.
Has anyone ever had ECT Treatment with a positive result and no memory loss??
