Hi Soxfan, I have never tried MAOIs ... not sure, but what I 've heard is that MAOIs and Tricyclic meds typically have many side effects. However, each person has different experiences .. so just see what happens... When you find, it works, and you feel OK then fine! If not, there are so many other types of meds you can still try. I learned, it is very important to listen to your own body! There are many theories what medications or vitamines are good for what, but the best is you look, what your body 'tells' you. I took: Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI - Paxil) Serotonin and Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor (SNRI - Efexor) now I am taking: Selective Serotonin Reuptake Enhancer (SSRE - Stablon) good luck perth

Sox, Welcome! The Depression Center offers personalized, interactive tools that have helped thousands of people challenge and overcome their depression. If you look to the left of the screen under "PROGRAM TOOLS" you'll find our Depression Test, Session Diary, CBT Buddies and our Depression Program. Why a Depression Test? The purpose of our Depression Test is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor. What is a Session Diary? Your Session Diary is your Depression Program "Control Center." Your Session Diary contains all of your tools, worksheets and results as you move through each of the 16 Sessions in the Depression Program. Online Support? CBT Buddies? Our CBT Buddies and Online Support Group allows you to have some anonymous assistance when dealing with depression. The CBT Buddie and Online Support Group is offered on a 24-hour basis and allows you to communicate with others like you around the world. CBT? The core of The Depression Center is our Depression Program which is an interactive, 16-session cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)course. When using cognitive behavioral therapy, each person has unique goals in their treatment. Whatever your motivation, cognitive behavioral therapy is a very effective treatment for depression. You can use the tools whether or not you are taking medication, and whether or not you are currently seeing a therapist or mental health professional. The Depression Program has a number of tools and resources to help each individual overcome their depression and win. Unfortunately, as moderators we are unable to give medical advice. Continue to work with your doctor and pharmacist for information on medication dosages and side effects. The members will be along shortly to share their experiences with you :) We hope you find the help you need within The Depression Center. If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding our site or with depression please click the "CONTACT US" link at the bottom of the page. We're open to any questions or concerns you may have. Hi folks. I'm starting a new med today-- Emsam, an updated MAOI that 's administered with a patch (24 hour, change every day). Has anyone tried this? I have either Treatment Resistant Depression or (my shrink would say) bipolar II. In any case -- SSRI's haven't done much for me, and we thought that this was worth a try. I'm on the lowest dosage so no food restrictionsyet, but if we have to go up in dosage I have to follow all the food guidelines of traditional MAO's (e.g. no aged cheeses, soy sauce, etc.) I don't know anyone who's tried this -- so any feedback would be appreciated, and I will keep you posted re: Emsam.
