I'm in college right now Jolt. I have a dysthemic depressive disorder so it doesn't affect my performance greatly. My girlfriend has major depression and deals with it in school basically by staying busy constantly. I do not know if its the best way to go about things but thats how she does it. Good luck at school, remember college is fun if you do it right

Jolty, You have come to the right place! Please feel free to roam the site at your own pace. If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find our Depression Test. This test is not a diagnostic tool and is not a replacement or substitute for a physician's advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor. We also have an online depression program that can be very helpful.. You may want to take it slow and step by step. We also provide an Instant messenger that you can download and speak to other members, whenever you want. jolty you might check out various church groups also on campus. You don't have to be deeply religious, just tell people you are seaching for meaning in your life. People in such groups can be very supportive and understanding. I have not had a religious upbringing and I don't really understand Christianity that well. I merely think that accepting God into my life is good. There's someone out there that loves me unconditionally, someone that will listen to me as i pray. someone that will inspire me, someone that will forgive me. I don't worry too much about the moral aspects, or all the rules etc. I'm basically a good person. My daughter was travelling abroad, was homesick etc and was helped tremendously by strangers in a church. take care bob

jolty i went through college with depression. What saved me was exercise, a lot of it. i played pick-up basketball, which was kinda easy as I enjoyed the game. Also i actually like most of my courses, which helped. It's good to get into something that absorbs your energy. Perhaps you can work on getting some tools together that can help you when you feel down. you might write poetry or write a journel. there are a number of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy skills you can work on. Read a book or too about that. Once you are at college try to get into some clubs or groups. Check several out to see if you can find something that suits you. Don't get too ambitious about your participation, however. Try to connect with some classmates, who are also new on campus. Minimize the party scene, drugs and alcohol. Get lots of sleep. Try to stay ahead of your studies, so you are prepared and you know what the profs are talking about in class etc. If you are feeling overwhelmed, you can always drop one or two courses. Quite frankly it can be tough to be away from home. Get a good phone plan, or card so you can connect to your family. Your college probably also has counselling service which can help you. Make sure you check that out if you have problems. Don't get down on yourself. Be your own best friend. Take small steps. Celebrate small victories. Keep writing on this site bob

Hi, I posted here once before, but it was a long time ago, so I thought I'd reintroduce myself. I'm eighteen years old, and have some big depression and anxiety problems. I'd like to get to know people here, and all that stuff. My depression's been getting a lot worse this summer, since I've been at home so much. I fear for what college will be like, and that I might become self-abusive there, to say the least. Has anybody here ever been through or is currently in college with depression? I get really frustrated and impatient when I try to read (a must at college, of course), I'm gonna be two hours away from home, and completely alone. This already seems formidable enough on its own, but does anyone have any tips on how to get by with depression on your back, without flunking out? I'm so afraid I'm going to do bad in my classes, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! :)
