hi I have been reading some self help stuff on CBT. I feel that this has helped me. I may also consider a therapist if i dive back into a deep black hole bob

Hi I have this too at the moment - but have been through it before. Medication does help - it works but discuss it with your doctor - each type has different side effects - and your doc should help you with these. I resisted meds for ages - but they do help. I have unipolar depression - I get it again and again - for no cause - I'd also advise you to try to get a course of CBT from a Psychologist. This therapy is great. It is another tool to help you deal with your depression (just as drugs are). If you had a broken arm you would let yourself have a cast on it right? well that is the way I think of my depression. I am currently forcing myself to go get a therapist for CBT (cost here in uk 100 dollars an hour!) because I need one and its hard to justify the cost. But CBT helped me a lot. Helped me sort out every day situations "now" and it was practically very useful! And you maybe could just do 6 sessions - and review if yo liked it or not? its not a long term 4 years of weekly therapy talking about whether you were breast fed or not ! its just very very practical. But I am banging on - sorry! Thanks for sharing your story. I am currently feeling awful too for loads of reasons an d struggling to go get myself some help. so I should take some of my own advice! Also I think your time outs in the rest room is a good idea! good strategy ! how resourceful you are! Keep going - and I will let you kow when I get to a therapist!

thanks for your support, it feels good just to mention how i feel to someone. i love my friends but can't always share this sort of stuff with them. i think i'll try talking some more options out with my doctor. will definitely keep on this site though. thank you.

Hello misschicks- Bob47 offered you some very good advice about things you can do to help combat your depression. i would also urge you to see a doctor and relay what you have been going through. Whether or not you go on meds would be up to you. they certainly are not a cure, but they can improve your quality of life. they do have some side effects which differ with each different person and they do take at least two weeks before they take effect. you might also consider therapy as it can be very helpful in helping you deal with the things that are bothering you. please keep writing here- we care. take care of you, Karen

Hi Misschicks Sorry, but I am afraid at some stage or the other you are going to have to take something. I know exactly what you are talking about. It's the most scary feeling sitting there, but you actually want to run to be somewhere else, but you don't know where that somewhere else is. I found that I was looking for reasons why I was feeling this way, but couldn't find any. The only solution for me was meds. I honestly hope to goodness, for you it can be something else, but I doubt it. Go well

hello misschicks there is a lot you can do without meds. therapy is of course one course of action, but its only a brief blip during the week or month. if you read the postings on this site and also research cognitive behaviour therapy you will gain many insights into how you can fight your depression. someone wrote that there's a list of 100 things that you can do to fight depression. perhaps the first thing to look at would be your exercise level...try to increase that if you can. meds do not generally provide an instant cure for depression...i believe that there is generally some experimentation required with different types and dosages. Also there may be side effects. Others can provide better feedback on meds than I can. i expect that others on this site will give you more good advice. by researching this site and in writing you are taking a good step. perhaps you should keep a journal of your thoughts and feelings. this site offers a diary. i wish you well. keep in touch on this site bob

i was recently diagnosed with depression but so far i've stayed away from taking any meds. i had some time off work but have now come back. i'm finding it really hard to stay calm and concentrate on my job. i still feel so worried and out of control and can't talk to anyone about it. i've left meetings and locked myself in the loo for a while to pull myself togther but can't go on like that. i don't know what to do. i feel i want to get out of my own skin and life.
