Dear Bob, Thanks for you reply. I will get back to you on the Buddhism question. I am also pretty busy at the moment :-) We are leaving on vacation next Wednesday but I will try to put something down here before then! You sound good today. I am feeling better too. I find this site very helpful and emotionally supportive. Everybody: Enjoy the good moments when they arise. Trisha

thx Trish i take a look at what i ordered and then will get to your suggestion. i am actually very busy now, and am feeling fairly good, so don't know how much time i have to read. however i am like a speed reader...a bad habit i picked up with too much school, so i get through a book quite fast. i know that it can be difficult to implement things on your own. i have been involved in various groups and some therapy and i realize that they are powerful forces, not so much for their informative value, but also because of the whole sociological process of interaction. various things in my life, including this site has changed my perception of who i am and how i should relate to the world. take care bob

Bob, Don't forget about "Loving What Is". I think you would like it. It is very good as is "Feeling Good"...the classic!. Cognitive Therapy takes work though which is hard to do alone when you are really depressed....at least that is what I've found. When you get to the point where you can think straight (I need medication for that) they are great. Trisha

trisha thx for your very solid idea. i like it. in any event i am going to treat myself by watching Steve Nash play basketball tonight. i rarely watch sports on TV, because i don't agree with the pro sports value system, but Nash is an inspiration as a player and as a person. I just sent away for a couple of books by Burns...Feeling Good and also the handbook, so i will see what I can do with them in terms of managing my depression. take care bob

bob, Continue to do the things you enjoy and tie them into your life as a reward for doing at least one thing each day you don't want to do. This is a good way to motivate yourself...For example, I like the movies but only go after I have completed some project or other. that is my reward or I tell myself If I stick to my diet for three days I will buy the little something or other I've been wanting but not until I go three days. It seems to work for me. Getting motivated is extremely hard when I am depressed. Remember, you are depressed or seem to be some of the time so don't be too hard on yourself but also we mustn't be too easy on ourselves either...by using our depression as an excuse because then we are getting something out of being depressed which makes it harder to vanquish. i need to control my life to a greater degree. i need more time to perform essential tasks. if i can complete tasks before just the last moment, i will feel much better about myself. bob

hi i think i'm addicted to the stock market, or perhaps its just the computer. perhaps i'm also addicted to the depression site, though there's some therapeutic benefit. i do Okay on the stock market, but the returns don't justify all the time i spend there. any comments about how i can balance my focus more. i need to lead a more balanced more orderly life. i'm always playing "catch-up", fighting fires, focusing on the latest crisis etc. I feel overwhelmed and under powered, frozen in the headlights et. how can i organize and balance my life. input will be greatly appreciated bob
