The common cold

Hello edwarl2,

Unfortunately, there is more likely a link to your past smoking history more so than your recent quit.

Smokers are more likely to develop pneumonia due to the fact their airways are less protected than non-smokers. A big part of your lung' defense system is the cilia that line your airway tract.

Those cilia are paralyzed and damaged while you are smoking. Once you quit, they do begin to repair themselves but it does take some length of time for your lungs to heal completely.

Hey Laura!!!

Congrats!!!  You're doing great so far on your quit journey!!!  About your colds, I can relate a little bit.  I hardly ever had a cold when I was a smoker and my allergies got much worse when I quit smoking!!!  What I figured was that I had such a thick tar coating on nasal passages, throat and lungs that those darn virus cells would get caught in the thick scum and be forever trapped!  I still haven't caught a cold, but my allergies are a thousand times worse!  Thankfully they have drugs to help!

Anyways, if you haven't already, you might want to go crazy around the house and workplace with a big bottle of disinfectant!  And if that doesn't help, maybe try staying away from all of those germ carriers!!!    Have patience... spring is here and those germs and viruses should disappear soon!

Has anyone experienced cold after cold when they quit?  I am at 94 days of my quit and I'm telling you the amount of colds, infections, etc I've had this year alone it has made it fairly easy to quit.  I am again at home with another infection, strep throat this time.  What I would give to be able to breath out of my freakin' nose again!
I thought giving up smoking is supposed to make you heathier...and I'm sure it is...I'm just really tired of these colds!  Just wondered if anyone else experienced this too.
Laura
P.S. I will not smoke today...NOPE!
