Hi Free....I don't usually come to this part of the site...I'm saving it for later. I haven't found that I eat alot more since quitting (although I'm afraid I may go into a sugar-induced coma with the amount of sour candies I suck on) However, I have started going to the gym WAY more since quitting and I come back ravenous! Sooooo...you may find that your appetite increases the more you work out. If not, I'm sure that your Personal Trainer can recommend a high protein, healthy diet which will prevent more weight loss. Great point Missy!! I remember reading that if we have thyroid disease, we must have it rechecked to see if our dosages need to be adjusted. I must admit my thyroid actually improved for the better! Hi FB!! I have lost 30 pounds since late June =) I havent really done anything different but eat baked snacks instead of chips, 2 % milk, Special K cereal / snacks, yogurt / fruit instead of cookies, and frozen yogurt instead of ice cream. oh, did I mention lots of water and herbal teas?? LOL!! Good for you freebird the first week I stopped smoking I lost two pounds and I felt great THEN I started to slowly gain the pounds back right away I started to exercise and I am happy to say I am at the exact weight I was before I quit. I have been reading on here alot about the weight gain and the different diets people have been using. I was setting myself up to use some of the different ideas and diets people use to not gain weight. After 10 days, and not doing anything different, I have lost a couple of pounds. I am finding out that when I do eat, for some reason I feel pretty full, but eating less at each meal and not snacking as much as when I used to smoke. Even my wife asked me last night if I lost weight. The scary part is, I am starting starting at the gym on Saturday, which was part of my plan to start approx. two weeks after my quit date and I am right on schedule. At this point I really don't need to lose anymore weight so I am looking into getting a personal trainer to get me started on a good routine to tone and gain muscle. I know everyones quit is different, but has anyone else gone through this. Hi freebird, When we stop smoking, our bodies go through a lot of metabolic changes for a while. You may gain a little weight when you start working out due to increased muscle mass...but it turn, muscle burns more calories, so if your metabolism slows due to your quit, this should balance it out. Your diet can also be altered for weight maintenance so if you begin to lose or gain more than you want, then a nutritionist or bariatrician might be a nice compliment to having a trainer. Enjoy your new, smoke-free and healthy lifestyle. Free Thanks for sharing and know that you are not the only one. Exercise is good for you and you should introduce it into your lifestyle. Check with your doctor before starting any exercise.
